Whats the best Peach Tree For Zone 9 ?

Hello Gang;

Would like to plant a Peach Tree , Dont know much about them , Looking for a Peach Tree that will do good in Zone 9.

Something Low Maintenance .

Florida Prince, Mid Pride, and earligrande are a couple excellent selections for low chill and vigorous good producing varieties.

i've had tropic beauty, tropic snow, uf sun and uf one. i like tropic beauty and tropic snow the best in taste and the trees have all done well for me and produce a lot of fruit. i'm in the tampa bay area though so you might get better input from someone in your area.

Peaches are disease prone. My first one did terribly, just not a robust type (Flordabelle) despite lots of spraying. I now have a tropic sweet - it is fantastic! Very disease resistant and amazing flavor, plus freestone. I had hundreds of peaches this year. I'd suggest you go to a reputable nursery at the end of summer (when disease pressure is most evident) and select the low chill variety that looks healthiest. It is how I got my current tree.

I dont want a problematic Peach tree & dont want to go crazy Spraying. I rather not plant one, But if they have low maintenance Peach trees i would like to get one..

Do our Forum Nursery owners have the  tropic sweet ?

mine have been extremely low maintenance. just make sure you get one with the florida-specific rootstock so the nematodes don't get to them and mulch around the base. you also want to water them in may-june when we typically experience drought and the fruit start to fill out. otherwise you won't reach maximum size.

Ed - be very careful where you purchase from.  You dont want to get one thst is on rootstock four Southern Florida or warmer climates.  I would make a call to University of Florida to inquire about varieties best suited for your area and where to purchase.

Not complicated at all. I am in Ocala and have a tropic snow and tropic beauty. Probably got 500-600 peaches this year. I do nothing but throw some fertilizer on it every few months or so.

The complicated bit is selecting a good variety, but if you can get a good variety, then they are very easy to grow. Didn't mean to discourage you  just wanted to let you know that it is worth the trouble to seek out one of the modern grafted varieties on a rootstock for your area. Now that I have a good tree, it needs heavy fertilization & pruning once to twice a year, and that's it. No spraying needed. I got mine at plan o gram if that helps. The owner is very knowledgeable if you have the time to stop by his place.

it's definitely not the best, but believe it or not FLguard rootstock makes a decent fruit, and it's highly productive with low chill hours, and resistant to nematodes..

My tropic beauties are on flguard rootstock. They have done great in my sandy soil. Ed you should absolutely get one. The peaches are wonderful.

I don't think you can go wrong with tropic beauty. Get a big one and get peaches next year.

I can't find any photo on Google on this var... i don't have a decente cam in this moment, but when i have it i will post photos of this beautifull peach tree here! This variety is maracotão preto carnudo peach tree.

My 15 gal was up to full production by the second season. The first season it had enough peaches to enjoy. I also planted a smaller tree and in it's third season it caught up to the larger tree and produced as much fruit. So now the two trees are the same size. They grew fast. You have to spray the trunks in the hot humid months and spray something light when blooming. Occasionally I spray for fungus and fertilize.. That's it. About 3 hours work for my 4 trees (if you include pruning) for the whole year.
