NE Peninsular Malaysia
« on: July 23, 2017, 10:38:25 AM »
Hi everybody

Soon I will be in the north east of Peninsular Malaysia (Kota Bharu and Kuala Terrenganu) for a week. I'm looking for good suggestions to see fruits markets, fruits farms or some nice other places about fruits.

Thank you for your help.

Try to bring back one of the other rare varieties of Purple mangosteen, besides the standard one everyone is familiar with. Peninsular Malaysia is the cradle of mangosteen cultivation. You might see some mangosteens in the market being sold as 'Mesta'.

Also some pummelo seeds wouldn't hurt.

Never seen the cherapu sold in markets of Asia. Is it grown commercially somewhere in Malaysia?

No it is not grown commercially. Some are harvested in jungles and others are planted in village orchard. Can be found in small markets in small town but not in cities.Best to befriend someone who lives in small town or better someone who sells in the market. In kelantan it is known as buah cepu.try asking the the sellers about buah cepu.dont forget to tell him it is orange in color and taste masam manis( sweet sour) since westerner may have hard time pronouncing cepu i suppose
