It took seven years but I found another tree. The first one was destroyed by Hurricane Maria. This one produces darker fruits with darker flesh.
Staggered germination just over two months of red flesh acerola. A unique variation of acerola endemic to Vieques.
Leaf variation
Red flesh on the left, regular acerola on the right
Super cool, maybe try cuttings with rooting gel like cloneX? Hows the taste?
looks like it could be a different species...Other than green leaves and red fruit, not the same.
do you guys know guachocote or m.mexicana?

really interested in that one
Ordered the white one today 'snow white 'best one I have had in the past was a white.
Interesting ilama variety! How true to type do ilama seedlings typically grow?
The ones I’ve had in that color had an amazing flavor! I’ll take that one over the white fleshed or light pink varieties any day. I’m not sure if it’s a regional name where I’ve had those but they would call those in particular anona Caribe or something like that. The skin also has a purple tone like the flesh, at least the ones I’ve seen.

Hey there...They have shipped fine to Texas so far. If they drop the leaves they will push new growth easily with proper care, although I haven’t had that issue yet. As with any shipping I have no control over local practices. I can say these trees do fine in my high heat and extreme dry Caribbean growing conditions
How well do these hold up during shipping with high temps? In TX and current temps are mid 90s to low 100s.
Thanks
Hi Sayyid,
They were actually my first go-to. Unfortunately, they advised that they lost both plants (and, tragically, much of their collection) to the hurricanes.
I’ll let you guys know when the fruit are ready if I’m able to get it it, thanks for the interest
Hey Bob, does the skin come off like those easy-peel types or do you still need to eat it with a spoon?
