Hi, the tree is not mine, neither the photos:

"ES UN ARBUSTO QUE MIDE 1 METRO DE ALTO (es igual a la eugenia uniflora pero las hojas son más delgadas, esa es la única diferencia del arbusto) LA FRUTA ES ROJA, REDONDA, POSEE UNA SEMILLA CENTRAL, LA PIEL ES BRILLANTE, DELGADA, DE TEXTURA POROSA. EL SABOR ES ÁCIDA Y DULCE, MUY AGRADABLE."

It seems to be similar to eugenia repanda, but I see that the leaves are different...

lol, maybe this is what Shah8 is growing...looks like E. candolleana, superficially...

very pretty tree!

I wonder how the fruit tastes? resinous?
fibrous?

looks like the fruit has much less flesh than E. candolleana, and the seed looks like it clings to the flesh more.

So he has an unknown eugenia? maybe... I will ask about the fibrous and resinous taste...

This basically looks like some strain of E. pyriformis which is quite poorly characterized, as there are a number of very different strains.

it doesn't remind me of pyriformis...their fruits are typically yellow or orange...I have never seen one with red fruits....and they have a velvet skin (fuzz) like a peach

lol...I'd plant about 4 seeds if you can get me some...it's worth a shot..

i love Eugenias, even the resinous ones...

Well, how many Eugenias have red fruit of that apparent size? E. multicosta, anything else?

multicostata is not really round, it's costate...the shape is totally different.

many eugenias have red fruits that size..I can't think of them all...

Hi Huertas,

Maybe it is a variety of the dwarf Pitanga (Eugenia pitanga)... there are varieties with smooth round fruits and I have at least two of these... those leaves do look a little different but even among mine they vary a lot... those sepals on the bottom of the fruit look smaller too... they remind me your fruits of Eugenia repanda but bigger... maybe it is another species (?)
see my photos and tell me what you think.... wouldn't mind to get some of those seeds to grow here and confirm for myself.

Folks: I will try to get seeds, but no response from the person for now.

Miguel: yes, it looks similar to eugenia pitanga, and the bush is 1M tall, so it's small.

i have several forms of E. pitanga, but none of them have foliage quite like the plant you have pictured.

it's not just the shape of the leaf (midrib prominence, venation, etc.), but the position and arrangement of the foliage. It is much different than my E. pitangas.

I'm confident that you have a separate species.

Marcos, if the pulp was red, as the young leafs..... Then it could be the ubaia (eugenia patrisii).
But she don´t looks like a pitanga, and the leafs and general aspect also makes her different of Eugenia Matosii... Maybe Eugenia Cuprea?

She said that she planted 5 seeds and all of them are growing fine, maybe will take some photos to help to id it.

if you get rootstocks of eugenia candolleana, i bet you can graft scions from this tree onto them.

the look very closely related.

there is a chance the grafted trees will fruit much sooner than seedlings.

I agree Adam, they look very similar to my candolleana (now doing well in the shade), I will get some seeds in some months if the new government let us bring mails from other countries (your wonderful seeds were blocked!, I am so sad, but new mails should do it!)
