I had a Palestinian sweet lime and discarded it because of its insipid, tasteless flavor. Tasted like sweetened water with a very slight hint of lime.

Daytripper: I know that Hydroton and cat litter are physically different. What I meant to ask is are they functionally similar?

Can cat litter be a good subsitute for Hydroton?

Good to see you here on this forum.

Citrus juice is quite acidic and acid inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. This is one reason why vinegar is used for pickling vegetables.

All plants have a wax on the surface of their leaves which makes them shiny.

Is now OK to graft? I understand that one should graft citrus in the spring. Or do you have a greenhouse?

That's what it is supposed to do.

lebmung, you said: You would need a window of 20% the surface of the room for cold and light..
What do you mean b 20% the surface of the room? I am trying to determine the minimum amount of light required to keep the trees dormant and alive.

I have to overwinter my trees indoors and am thinking about putting them in the cold and dark. By cold I mean 45 to 50F. But how much light is there in dark, i.e., how many lumens are necessary to maintain the trees? I would like to keep them in a state of sem-dormancy.

I use Turface for my gritty mix: 1:1:1 turface (screened through insect screen), chicken grit, pine bark (1/4 to 1/2 inch). Disadvantages of using Turface: have to screen out the fines, it is dense (I.e., heavy) and it is not easy to find. Repti bark on the other and, does not require screening and you can order it from Amazon or Chewy or pick it up at pet stores.

Other than its fast flowering characteristic, why would someone want one of these? Would it be a useful rootstock?

Kumin makes a good point.
I have found that the pH of my tap water changes occasionally. Apparently, this is due to my town changing the wells it uses to supply water.

Thank you all for your comments. I have learned something, again, from this forum.
I am in zone 6a and the ground here does freeze solid. I will wait to plant my Poncirus trifoliata until spring because I agree that it would be best to let it develop a good root system during the summer.

What about the more cold hardy ones, like Poncirus trifoliata. When is the best time to plant, fall or spring?

I use Organza bags on my fig fruits. Do not use it on my citrus because the pests and critters leave them alone.

Citrus General Discussion / Remove flower buds from scion?

I noticed two flower buds but no signs of leaves on a scion that I cleft grafted onto rootstock. Should I remove them?
