Seems Sugar Loaf has staying power.  That’s good to know since we have 30 Zills Sugar Loaf Trees planted out and all survived.  I think the largest is just barely over 5’ now but they were tiny 12” trees and we do not water Mangos.  It would be nice to go a little deeper and get taste tests done on fruits grown using different management practices.  Satya’s videos are the only ones that even touch on the subject.  I think Butter Cream is right up with Sugar Loaf but it’s full potential has not been shown yet.  We have about 15 Butter Cream trees, they are much faster growers.

Buttercream is an apple and sugarloaf is an orange. Both good but way different.

For me( a greenhorn)
Buttercream is very good, but sugarloaf is EXCELLENT.
Buttercream just lacks the complexity of so many other “top tier mangoes” In my opinion. The buttercream I had from ZHPP this year was a great, rich, butter-textured very sweet mango, but didn’t come close to the sugarloaf’s coconut, pineapple, sweet juicy mango godliness. In my opinion.

I am dying to have a Sugar Loaf!

Is there anyone that would ship one to California?

Cheers!

Season long over in Florida.   Your only chance would be a Cali grower.

Thanks bsbullie.  I am actually looking for a plant that I can grow here in California!
Many online nurseries that ship to Cali said they don't carry sugarloaf anymore (I called them).
I found one on ebay, and it is on the way now. Supposedly will be here on Tuesday 10/6. Fingers crossed, if the tree arrives well and healthy, I will let you know which seller I bought it from.

It arrives today. They ship on Monday as I requested so the tree does not spend weekend in the warehouse.
They wrapped the soil neatly in the plastick bag, so it is not bare root.
About 3.5 ft tall. I suspect it was bigger/taller but they cut it for shipment, since there is a fresh cut on the top.
Overall, not a bad tree.

Sugar Loaf seedlings have the nicest new foliage.  No watering and a little fresh organic grass fed cow manure. Managed for Soil health.

my Sugarloaf was planted as a 3-gallon and has been in the ground for two seasons I will let you know how flowering season goes . Your tree looks really good I think you're going to be off to a good start. Here is a celebratory Dance GIF to celebrate your new tree. :)

Sugar Loaf aka E4 tend to take time/age before setting fruit.  For the first few years of flowering (they seem to flower heavily) they tend to send male flowers.

Cute cow! @frogvalleyfarms.
@bovine421, your sugar loaf looks very healthy and has nice branches.
@bsbullie Is sugar loaf a good producer once they start producing?

1 of our Zills Grafted Sugar Loaf trees from the original post dated 11.16.18, most have flowered 1x.  This tree is about 6x5’ today, should be flowering again in just a few months.  The new growth on our grafted Zills trees is considerably lighter than new growth on our Sugar Loaf seed grown trees.

Interesting, the new foliage on my seedling Sugarloaf mango is also dark red. I thought I had seen other pictures of grafted E4/Sugarloaf mango trees on this forum with the golden/bronze colored leaves on new growth like what I get on my Lemonzest mango tree.  Can someone else confirm what we should see for new leaf color?

The color is possibly sunscreen.  Trees on the west side of my house that only get sun past noon have less intense coloration on new growth than those on the south side.  They tend towards bronze vs red or purple.  Pushes from lower, shaded branches are also less colored than terminal exposed pushes.  Nutrient availability may also play a role, as neglected plants or straggler buds in a given flush push weaker paler growth.

Certain varieties naturally have red, gold/bronze and shades of green for their new growth

Yes i agree Rob, I noticed different trees have different new growth.  I do believe nutrients probably play a role in Mango leaf color intensity.   I do not believe it is caused by the sun since some of our seedling Sugar Loaf trees are growing in both mostly shade and more sun, the same dark foliage.  I have found our trees with the most intense dark foliage have produced for me a higher quality fruit, like Sweet Tart.  The color varies with management practices.  We will see if this trend continues into 2021 season.  Florida Fall foliage.
