When to harvest Peanut Butter Fruit?
« on: July 30, 2020, 12:41:23 PM »
Well, my girlfriend's Peanut Butter Fruit tree finally set fruit, woo hoo. Now, how to know when to harvest them? One is red but firm. Will that (or even the orange ones) ripen off the tree? Or is it best to wait for when they are soft on the tree, but at the very moment just before some varmint takes it? Thanks!

Yeah when it gets soft is ready when the best . Get ready red , soft and kind of shiny if over ripens they'll start fermenting a little .

Thanks for the info Nyuu! Does it take a while for them to go from firm to soft, or is it quick? In other words, at this point, how closely should we be watching the fruit? Thanks!

Mine are ripening now.  I pick them when they are slightly soft, dark-orange to red and becoming shiny/translucent, and eat immediately.  They are still okay when they are red-red and very translucent, but not as good.  The one in your top picture looks perfect for eating now

If you pick them at hard orange stage they should still ripen on the counter indoors and taste the same.

Check every day, or every other day, once the first one is orange

And if it's not ripen enough it give green chlorophyll type taste and very hard to eat the flesh .
The longing you grow it the better you get on timing it . once it starts beginning to ripen they can ripen really quickly the textures will be something similar to persimmon

Yes, full ripe they get sticky and nearly fall off. Plant some seeds they grow VERY easily i would eat and spit seeds they often came up as volunteers.
