Title: Narrow Leaf Guava (Psidium striatulum) fruits!!
Post by: Daintree on January 18, 2019, 10:58:20 AM
First fruit from the second blooming of my Psidium striatulum! Trying to keep hubby from eating the whole thing as I frantically pick the seeds out.  I started a bunch of seeds from the first fruit last year, but boy those things sure seem to be touchy.  I did get a few seedlings though. Very fun fruit!

Cheers from Carolyn in the Commonwealth of North Daintree (the residents of my greenhouse formed their own micro nation and seceded from the United States a while back...)

CORRECTION - Hubby says he is VERY good at not biting the seeds and spitting them out for me!

Ok, I have about 15 extra seeds after I've planted all I have room for. Anyone want to have a go at them?  Free, first class mail to US only. Just let me know!  - Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, can you comment on the taste? Is it similar to common guava? I've got 3 plants that have grown to a pretty good size, I'm hoping they flower this year.

Pineislander- I'm slowly building up my guava collection and I've been trying to find cas! I tryed growing from seed but all the seedlings died. the description I find for the taste of this species is so interesting it motivates me to grow it. Have you found the plant to be finicky at all?

It actually reminded me a little bit of papaya. Sweet and smooth and creamy. I liked it way better than common guava - but the only ones I have ever had I have bought at Walmart!

Woah that sounds really promising! I'm really looking forward to these guys fruiting. Most guava sold in stores leave much to be desired, they aren't the sweet and highly aromatic fruits I had when I was younger. I find store bought guavas to be okay but not to the full potential of the fruit, as wtih so many other fruits..

Hi Carolyn,

I just noticed a first bloom from a seedling of yours.  Hope I get at least one fruit to try this year.

Thanks again!
