Citrus General Discussion / Re: Best lemony scent
« on: March 13, 2022, 07:40:01 PM »
In the US? Santa Teresa Femminello. Hands down, the BEST so far. Very high oil content, extremely fragrant. Four Winds is the only nursery selling it (as far as I know), so if you can’t receive citrus from CA (if you’re in Florida, Texas, AZ, etc), go with the Femminello Siracusano (more widely available).

Check out the Georgia Citrus Association and 1-Dog Ventures. They should have several varieties available :)

Trees look great, Bob! As always 😊. How does the Changshou taste - like a regular kumquat or sweeter?

Thanks for the photos, Kumin! Can you do multiple grafts on one rootstock? Did you cover the graft or just use the parafilm? I have several rootstock trees that are too large to cleft graft, so I was going to resort to t-bud grafts. I recently tried a few cleft grafts, leaving the top two leaves on and unwrapped. We’ll see what happens.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Juanita Tangerine

Thanks Laaz - I remember hearing that now, though I’ve never tried one.

TFN, thank you for the offer! I would love to try one or two if you have them to spare! My tree is small and will take a few years to produce.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Juanita Tangerine

I recently acquired a Juanita Tangerine and was curious to know a little more about the tree/fruit if anyone has one. I’ve heard the famous story of Ms. Juanita and was curious about the flavor of the fruit.

Thanks, Bob!! I found a source for the Valentine - I’ll have to research the thong dee and will let you know. I appreciate your generosity very much 😊

Found a broken branch on my Tarocco from the storm last night. Will probably yield two good budsticks if anyone in Georgia (US) is interested.

Looking for a few snips of a valentine pummelo if anyone has one that needs pruning :)

Thanks!

What a fantastic idea, thanks Laaz!!

Thanks for all of the advice, everyone! Millet, do you recommend foliar or root feeding of Epsom salts?

Joe, I am zone 8a, but my trees stayed outside most of the winter, only going inside our unheated garage a handful of times when the temps dropped. The funny thing is, my eureka and Genoa lemons are all dark green, but my Bearss Lemon and Santa Teresa lemons are suffering. I will apply the Epsom salt mix tomorrow and see how it goes. I’m thinking of sending my soil off for testing, too. Just to be safe and on the lookout for future issues.

16
I’ve never sprayed mine either - it’s used when watering (not every watering; I’ve only used it once this year).

FoliagePro

18
Thanks Laaz, my mix consists of soil conditioner and perlite only. I always water thoroughly as well. I’ve decided to stop using FE and only use Osmocote and FP moving forward. I only apply Osmocote once in winter, and FP is only during the growing season.

Interesting what you may get from seed 🙂

Thanks Laaz! I’ve actually only fertilized twice this year. What is your feeding schedule?

Citrus General Discussion / Boron Toxicity or Magnesium Deficiency?
« on: June 13, 2019, 05:50:59 AM »
Apologies for the noob question, but do the below leaves reflect boron toxicity or a magnesium deficiency? My trees are fertilized with Osmocote Plus, while alternating FoliagePro and Fish Emulsion. Towards the end of last summer, I stopped using FoliagePro and was only using FE. Now, I’m afraid I’ve experienced a nutrient lock out. We’ve had about 5 straight days of excessive rain, so they’ve gotten a good flush.

Note: my young grafted trees are still indoors, using the same water source (but were not fed FE) are all dark green.

2nd Note: the third picture shows new growth on a tree that almost exclusively produces dark red shoots that purple out before turning green. This new growth has been entirely green from the start.

Thanks for your time and any/all advice is greatly appreciated 🙂

I’ll let you know if I hear of anything

Following, as I have been mulling over getting one for awhile, but space is limited and I already have 20+ trees. I received NZL budwood from the CCPP, but the grafts were destroyed by my puppy before I could move them out of reach.
