Cherimoya fruits all turned black while ripening on table
« on: November 10, 2021, 11:24:53 PM »
Last months I picked some fruits from my sister house, set on table for ripening. Then 4 days later all fruits with skin turn black and looked like dried out. My theory is that due to low humidity in the room. You guys have any ideas?

The fruit were all mature with rattling seeds inside when shaking.

Hi, i have seen them get like that most of the time in the store. They pick them way to green for transport reasons ,while they are hard as rocks they stay green, but when thet start ripening and softening ,they get this black/dark brown color to them. The flesh does not get affected colour wise, but the flavour i feel is not what it should be.
I dont know how goes the proces with ripening a fruit picked at the right time from a tree, but i guess blackening is due to the fruits picked way to green....
Maybe yours are picked too green ??

I’ve had this many times. No idea what causes it. Really frustrating when you buy a beautiful one from the farmers market for top dollar and it goes from just barely underripe to rock hard and black in the time it should take to ripen on counter.

Not completely sure but I think this may be due to being unripe fruits and it may need a bit more time on the tree.

Sounds like the moyas could have been picked too early.

Hmm, I'm not a newbie to cherimoya, and the fruits were big, plump with smooth scales and rattling seeds. I mean all of them turned dark skin. I have never had anything like this before, and I had picked many fruits before.
