Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mono Lemon Zest seed?
« on: June 16, 2019, 05:45:08 PM »
This seed was in a Lemon Zest fruit I purchased from Zill's nursery. It appears to be monoembryonic. Is this normal/common? I will be growing it out to see the outcome.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango planting question
« on: July 25, 2018, 08:57:40 PM »
I just purchased two mango trees which are much smaller than the size I usually get although in the same size pot. (3 gallon) I'm wondering if I should plant them or let them mature in their pots a little longer. They're about two feet tall.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Some more mangoes from Tropical Acres
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:14:38 PM »
I just made another pickup from Tropical Acres. I just tried a Sunrise for the first time. What an excellent selection, a rich citrusy taste. I'm waiting on most of them to ripen. I'm excited to try a few for the first time, especially Harvest Moon.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pina Colada Mango
« on: June 11, 2018, 11:30:20 PM »
For some reason (I'm addicted to seeking out and purchasing mango trees) I've been wanting to add a Pina Colada mango to my collection. I have never tried this fruit. I have a Coconut Cream and a Pickering, both having a coconutty flavor. If you've sampled this fruit Is this variety unique enough or even worth it for that matter. I'm not concerned with the supposed low production or lack of vigor.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sweet tart mango
« on: May 24, 2018, 11:53:51 AM »
So I planted a 3 gallon sweet tart last August. I tip pruned it to 4 scaffold branches about a foot long each. About a month later it had about 3 or 4 swollen buds on each branch. Since then it has done absolutely nothing. I was about to plant another one since I thought it was a dud. I just went to look at it and its putting on a massive growth flush. It looks amazing. I learned to never give up. I love this hobby.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango bacterial spot
« on: April 25, 2018, 05:13:15 PM »
I recently purchased and planted a mallika and a Maha Chanok mango. I was unaware that the spottting on the leaves is bacterial leaf spot. Are these cultivars susceptible to the strain that affects the fruit as well. Is bacterial leaf spot common? And is there any way to find a list of mango cultivars resistant to bacterial spot that affects fruit? Thanks for any help.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango pruning question
« on: April 01, 2018, 05:01:25 PM »
I have some young trees in the ground less than a year that I am planning on tip pruning "to make their canopies dense"
They are now starting to put out mixed blooms. If I prune a few inches below the mixed panicle will they try to rebloom or flush vegetative growth? Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruning rollinia problem
« on: March 29, 2018, 09:47:26 PM »
Hi I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. All of my rollinia branches have died back after pruning. I sterilize my pruners with rubbing alcohol and have never had a problem with any other tree before. I was wondering if this is common or if there is a special technique involved. Thanks
