I thought I would share a few pics from a visit to a farm a couple of weeks ago.
Pedalai have nice fruit like a giant rambutan and are like a marang inside but the trees get big very big.

This young but fruiting pedalai is getting some width and is ready to rocket up. They get very tall and are hard to train.
Keledangs can be maintained as productive tress at 2-3m tall.

Juicy pearls are small trees and can be kept below 2m.

This hard pruned row is being trained and the first flushed already have flowers and fruit.

Wow, pedalai tree look like stuck with us from dinosaur era. Very impressive. I believe some members in Florida wanted to grow as a suburban backyard tree ;).
I've been wondering about keledang's commercial potential, looks like there is visual anwer now :)

Amazing how they manage to keep those trees at that height with pruning.btw how old are those juicy pearls and are they from seeds?

Thanks for the pics Mike, is great to know juicy pearls and my holy grail Kelendang can be maintained short, I have a young Pedalai but is very skinny compared to that beauty full specimen..

This may have been covered before but are those Juicy Pearls as different species than Chrysophyllum cainito? All of them that I have seen have had the dark coloring on the bottom of the leaves.

Juicy Pearls are not C.cainito but C.argentium subs auratum I believe. Oscar has a similar one that is probably the same species. These were 2m productive seedling hard pruned to become small and thick for the rest of their days. They needed to be fruiting and mature for this to work best and for them to fruit immediately. Pedalai is as big as any Artocarpus and can be much more than 100 feet and very wide. Soft fruit falling from great heights leave little for eating being a thing smear over a large area.

Nice pic's Mike, of starapples and like also espaliered work with them, how cold hardy are they when mature?

Sunny I believe there are a few subspecies and if the fruit were like those in that link, no one would ever plant them. I believe starapples and juicy pearls can take freezing point but not much lower.
