Tropical Fruit Discussion / Abiu cross polination for more fruit
« on: December 27, 2023, 02:15:15 AM »
I have a Abiu tree that flowers profusely for about three years but very few fruit. I had planted another Abiu tree about  220m (240 yards) away before I realised that they needed to cross pollinate. Is this tree too far? The second tree has not yet started to flower but is getting close maybe next year. Otherwise I need to find another one to plant half way between. Or do they need to be right next to each other?

Thanks

Scions which are wrapped in buddy tape remain viable for 10days or two weeks and can be grafted  on your own rootstock. You just need to know if they can be brought into your country.

I ordered scions from them twice. They delivered them bang on time so that they arrived at my friends just before they flew out to me in Uganda. Scions growing well.

I have Wani Mango growing in northern Uganda at 3200ft/1100m above sea level. I got the seeds in 2018 from Seed Pirates. It is growing slowly and has now just started branching. I think it is not really hot or humid enough here but it does keep growing, it is now 6ft tall. Of course we don't have any frost or very low temperatures. Hoping one day to get fruit.

Rare palm seeds is a good place to start base in Germany. I have had some good buys from them.

I found Yellow Mombin germinates quite easily. But I brought maybe 30 purple Mombin seeds from Costa Rica and for three months none germinated. That one grew and continues to grow like crazy. I'm very happy about hat as it is unknown here in Uganda.

I got 5 Mammy Apple  seeds from Oscar in January. I gave them no special treatment just half buried in the shade. Two have germinated one in three months (See picture) and the other took 7 months to germinate. I'm still waiting on the others.

I bough mango scions from them, plus Pakistan red mulberry scions. I was very happy this what I got.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Upcoming trip to Cambodia and Singapore
« on: April 30, 2022, 04:42:01 AM »
Hello
I have a planned trip to Siem Reap in Cambodia and Singapore in June. Any tips of what interesting fruit I should look out for in that season in those locations.

Also where can I find the biggest varieties of fruit/ named cultivars to taste/ collect seeds from... I'm thinking especially of in Singapore. Thank you!

So sorry to hear about your son's passing. That is painful to bear.

But it is good to hear that you are becoming active again. Gardening is good for the soul. Blessings.

I received my second order and everything was perfect, the cuttings are well healthy and well protected for their long trip.

Thank you very much Mike  ;).

I am interested to know which cuttings you ordered, how long they were in transit and if they strike! Thanks

You are not going to find many or any. Yucatán produce the most something like 500 tons that’s commercially. There few backyard trees over the city and the rural area in the Yucatan o
Península  but nothing like nances, mangos, caimito, sapotes etc ..maybe Raul or someone else  that lives in the west coast can chime in

Ok Thanks
