What do I do with this Dragon Fruit cutting?
« on: March 23, 2017, 04:16:20 PM »
I planted this dragon Fruit in August 23, 2016 today March 23, 2017,  7 months have passed by. Does not have any intention of sending new growth out. It is as  fat as a pig.  Roots are shooting out from the bottom of the pot. The only thing that occurs to me is to cut an inch from the top to shake it up. Any body has any experience with similar situation?

Give it plenty of sun and fertiliser.

I cut the top off any rooted cuttings that won't grow. That usually kicks them into gear!

Try to put it in a bigger pot.

I would repot it. Fat, but not much else too it yet. The roots have probably been developing, and it will likely respond well to repotting. If that doesn't work, cut away.

Not that uncommon. I have had cuttings take over 6 months. Back in July 2016 I got 12 S-8 cuttings. Two have no growth and 3 have only small buds. The other 7 have new growth and have been transferred to bigger pots.

Maybe try pulling it up to make sure there are a lot of roots. I had something similar happen to my in ground dragon fruit before. The problem was the soil was too dense and the roots couldn't breathe so they didn't grow much. The sections did plump up like yours.

It might not be your problem since your soil looks loose. Still wouldn't hurt to look at the roots. No need to worry about damaging the roots of a cactus.

Your cutting actually looks really good.  Sometimes they take quite a long time to root.  I've never tried tipping as a growth stimulus so can't comment on that but I would add a little fert and make sure it's getting adequate water.

Carlos,

Your Dragon looks very good. Your cactus is swollen and the top is going to push soon.
Some where on this forum is a mix for Cactus soil, find it and Mix up a batch and put your cactus into a bigger pot(it works great) and use a Liquid Cactus fertilizer once a month for it and lot's of sun.

Joe.

I tried to add the thread for the mix but it didn't work.
