Mango Root System

What is more important to the mango root system?  Is it the ability to go deep or have a wide spreading diameter?

from what I've read, mangoes have a fairly large taproot that goes deep down to retrieve water and smaller feeder roots that spread out more for gathering minerals/nutrients. The deep taproot makes sense, given that they had to evolve to endure the long dry monsoon seasons in india.

Mangoes seem to do well in areas like Homestead, FL where the depth to bedrock is measured in inches. But this is probably because even in our "dry" season, we still get rain about once every week or two.

Thanks Cookie Monster - I have everything in containers now.  I was thinking about planting a couple that  I would not mind leaving behind when it was time to move, but I didn't want to have a problem with the roots affecting my patio/foundation.  Everything that I have is either dwarf or semi-dwarf.

If the tree is about 8 feet from a patio or sidewalk, I wouldn't expect any trouble.
