« on: May 07, 2012, 09:17:10 PM »

Hi Adam,

Not sure if my strawberry guava tree qualifies as bonsai. It's about 6 years old and 2 ft tall. It's been fruiting for a few years now.

Those leaves look full sized to me (though could be the picture)...is this considered a true bonsai ?  On GW, there is a thread withe some amazing pics of a real bonsai mango WITH fruit.

BSBull,

leaf size doesn't determine status as bonsai...just rericting roots to a pot, and keeping roots pruned...and tree trained usually.

it is better though to have smaller leaves for bonsai...it looks better.

thanks for uploading pic.

never thought about strawberry guava, but now I see it's good to restrict to a pot.

I like genetically dwarf plants, but to me bonsais are a kind of plant torture, complete with wires and tourniquets. True the results look very beautiful to humans, but i think from the point of view of a plant it must be pure torture! It kind of reminds me of another oriental practice of making women's feet very small and "dainty" by restricting them to very small shoes.

Okay Guys and gals. I have the following Fruiting trees in training and will post pics soon.

I took a 15 gal six foot UF Sun Peach and it's about two foot tall and growing well. I also have several fig trees and a Sunshine Blueberry bonsai.

This thread should be fun. Will post pics soon.
