Hello Gang ;

This morning I was checking up on my trees and saw this one Pickering with a slightly yellowish hue , And a small wound , Will this Mango Properly Ripen with the small wound or will it spoil ?

It's a good size  1.27 LBS

Looks good and ready to eat to me. I've had 4 from my small tree so far and I think there's 4 left on it. They were pretty darn good.

I'd say it should ripen just fine.  My early Pickering (26 fruit) have been outstanding.  Very sweet, flavorful (pronounced coconut), large.  The best my tree has produced (in four years of production).  (I experimented with extra potassium and calcium to make the fruit sweeter in sandy soil, as advised by Har and others.  It seems to have helped, but Angie will tell me for sure.)  Pickering isn't a fiber-free mango, but totally worthwhile.  The second wave is developing now, smaller fruit, should be ready by the end of the month.

Let them hang till they get basically a full yellow/gold color.  Then they need to ripen till start getting fully ripe (usually best when they have started getting some black spotting).

Pickering tastes best when it is really ripe..kinda over-ripe. I always pick mine when they are ripe and wait for a few days before eating it.

I had been disappointed with the taste of Pickering for the last two years.  They have been bland with a lil sweet & a small hint of coconut taste, but mostly tasted watered down.  They all either fell naturally or dropped in my hand with the slightest touch.  I  went out of town for a few days & when I returned there were two that had fallen.  One was pretty much mush & I threw it out.  The other seemed overripe but I tried it anyway & it was the best Pickering to date.  It actually had flavor.  It had went beyond yellow in color.  Just yesterday I tried another fresh off the tree....Bland Again!  So I agree that Pickering must continue to ripen after being picked.  I have two on the counter now.

I arrived in Fla a few days ago, went back to check on our little Pickering tree,  first thing I noticed there were two rotting fruit on the ground, separate from the tree,  they had hole on them but not sure if they rotted out like that or some critter got to them.  the tree had some 16 more fruit, about 6 were laying on the ground already,  I picked 3 that had some slight yellowing on top,  I know they should probably stay on the tree more,   the others that were on the ground, I propped up with sticks,  so will see how the ones I picked ripen.  I'll leave the others on the tree, as suggested by others in this thread.
