You are definitly ahead of Merritt island and thak you for the good luck. I have never had a pina colada or many of the verieties that I have planted so Ill be coming to see you a couple of times this season. I don't think anyone up here sells any of the newer stuff.

Oh that's nothing compared to what they've done to some of the other trees. They really love Fascell, Cambodiana, and Harvest Moon but they'll attack pretty much any mango. I think about half the Sri Lankan weevil population in SFL lives on the farm here in West Palm.

I run a weevil sanctuary here in Coral Springs. We take weevil refugees from the tri-county area and give them an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of lychee, mango, and sapodilla leaves.

looks like some of my new trees especially the ones still in pots just aren't going to do it but that's a good thing.  Lots of swelling in the buds on the rest.

First let me say that all of my approximately 60 mango varieties are trees 3 years or under.

Rapoza and rosigold have heavy fruit set. Pickering is holding a few but starting to flush again, same for keitt. Honey Kiss had a nice fruit set for the first time and is pushing more blooms now.

Pina colada partially flowered and set some fruit. I hope some will hold. It's starting to push more flowers.

Peach Cobbler, one of the most vigorous trees so far is just ornamental pushing lots of new foliage. I'll give it another year or two.

Most of the rest are showing movement and I'll know soon iwhat kind of year I'll have. I have a handful of trees still dormant. I'll report fully on all trees individually once I have a better idea of fruit set.

In my experience if starting from zero and you want trees that will produce young and reliable give you good amounts of fruit get a Rosigold and Rapoza. The rosigold gave me about 30 fruits last year as a two year old tree and will easily pass that amount this year. Last year the rapoza gave me around 5 fruits. There may be better varieties but the best tree gives you fruit.

I'm fortunate to have the space to plant a good mix so I can wait for the newer varieties to get productive.

You need a fleet of Cuban Knight Anole lizards. They will eat those suckers.

Alex, how good of.a mango is the dwarf Hawaiiian? Is it worth it to plant as a backyard mango?

It has a spice/resinous flavor one would associate with mangos descended from Julie, with a moderate-to-high fiber content. Its disease resistance is lousy and it's best grown within a couple miles of the coast. It does tend to make an early-early crop that matures in April most years. They usually bloom multiple times between October and February.

Really nice, compact growth habit .

Have you seen them eat the weevils?
So far the lizards at my place (whatever they are) don't seem interested.

Same here... We've gotten plenty of cool nights followed by weather in the upper 70s and low 80s, but nothing at all has happened.

Hi Alex, Do you know if your Rosa mango is the same variety of Rosa from the fruit and spice park?  My friend who  sent me the scions from there told me it was very sweet like a cotton candy, but looking through the search here in forum some say is very sweet  but also very tart, also is not very clear if this variety is the same as mango "Rosa"  from
Brasil, what can you share about yours?
