Grafting citrus on top of Pomello
« on: March 15, 2019, 10:33:58 AM »
I have an established pomello tree with three main trunks that produces heavily. Unfortunately, it overproduces and I'm not too crazy about eating a pomello every day.

I'd like to graft some other varieties on 2/3 of the main branches. What kind of citrus could I graft on to this tree and would a bark graft work to add to each (3-4inch) branch? Ideally I'd like to have 3 coming off each branch.

-A must have for me is Mineola Tangelo (Is this compatible?)
-Does anyone have budwood they'd be willing to share of good varieties? (I am in california)

I already have Naval Orange, Mexican key lime, Australian finger lime, Meyer Lemon

Thanks for your help.

Very nice! This is what I'm envisioning basically - but with more varieties.
Do you have updated pictures? I don't see any dates.

Interesting that your pomelo tree seems to grow so well so far North.

Probably oranges or grapefruits would show the best compatibility to pomelo.

Tangelo might be borderline compatible, maybe not the best, but I'm sure you could probably get fruit off it.

My wife fell in love with the mineola tangelo's at Winco... I'm sure they'd be as good as, or better than what I got at the store.
