USDA Aphis Small Lot Seeds Permit
« on: May 13, 2020, 03:54:34 PM »
Anyone here have experience using and applying for USDA Aphis Small Lot Seeds Permit.

I just applied online, seemed fairly simple, just not sure what logistics are.

How long does it take for application to be accepted?

Do they need actually species name for each permit? Seems like for each permit the drop down menu list just Genus (Plinia spp, Annona spp, etc)

Does the exporter only need to include copy of permit?

Many Thanks!!!

Yep, the process is really, very easy!

Application will be accepted within a couple days to a week I'd say.

You don't need species name and can just do genus spp.
like Plinia spp.

They send you a more detailed list of what is needed from the exporter when your permit is accepted. It's also good to refer to the requirements posted on the USDA website.

Enjoy!

Yes, the exporter will need to list the seeds at least to the genus level, but they prefer species.  Then they have to include other things, such as the country of origin, who collected the seed, etc.
I just made a chart with the info that they need, and email it to the exporter, along with a COLOR copy of one of the shipping labels and the permit.  Makes it really easy.  I use it myself when I travel.
I also carry seed cleaning supplies, various little plastic baggies, desiccant and water beads, and addressed padded envelopes to mail the seeds home.
All carried around the world a zillion times in my "Happy Little Vegemite" lunch box!

To make things easy, you can put “all applicable taxa” and list all countries. That way you don’t have to think of every single genus and get an amendment if you happen to want to import seeds that aren’t on your permit. I have used mine a few times. Reputable sellers will know exactly what to do. Just email them your permit and yellow/green labels and everything should go smoothly
