I didn't know you were searching them otherwise would have offered an hand. They are pretty common (for a mango) in europe.
Probably will buy some plants in spring (if stars align). Gomera-3. Let me know.

Gomera/Turpentine can be found all over Florida. For hardier rootstock you should try la vernes seedlings from whomever is growing it in Socal or order a tree from them and fruit them.

Dont know how Lavernes would do in Florida  (similar issue possibly as you guys have with Turpentine ).

I know Rob but I don't understand why he's going to Europe to get turpentine seeds :)
here is how turpintine rootstock grows vs la verne seedlings

they were both plated last year la verne seedling was grafted in August 2014

I offered my willingness to help (for free). Knowledge of local laws and customs should be a budern of the receiver, I guess, because I can't literally know the regulations active everywhere in the world.

So, are you suggesting that if i see a guy from Sri Lanka asking for some budwood, before offering myself volutary to send some, I should learn tamil, then learn their laws, then do some research in their customs websites to see if that is possible?  :o
Is this the standard behaviour here, or this applies just to me?  :o  ::)

Manga banca is Gomera 4 BUT Gomera is the same as turpetine?
I do not know a place in Europe where they use turpetine (with that name) as rootstock

Gomera is about as cold hardy as Tim Thompson Antonia mango.
Here is a 3 year old in La Costa Tropical de Granda

here is a 1.5 year graft in la verne seedling and Ataulfo do we need to go any further?

Here in Florida, we have long been of the opinion that no mango is more cold-hardy than any other, because we have never seen any controlled experiments showing any difference.  There have been some anecdotal claims, such as for 'Bailey's Marvel.'

Hello everyone, if anyone has some seeds for any mango hardy to zone 9b, such as gomera 1, gomera 3 or 4, please send me a message. Of course I shall send you some money for the seeds and postage.
Currently I have a mango plant grown accidentally by a seed and it thrives, but during the winter I think that only the roots will survive, as it has happened another time with really tropical mangoes in my tiny garden.
Thank you!

According to this article Gomera 1 and Gomera 3 behavior differs from Turpentine, so not identical cv.

Here in Florida, different persons call different mangos "turpentine".

I got to see someone's experiment: he gathered "turpentines" in over half-a dozen places in southeast peninsular Florida and the Keys, and he followed appropriate procedure and kept the batches separate and labeled.  They were amazingly different.  Some whole batches were worthless, the plants eaten up by Anthracnose, etc.
Others were the healthy, standard-type "Turpentine" that I had been accustomed to working with at Zill's.

i am in 9b and did some research a while back.
i looked at mango groves in India, and there are a few in Northern India which may be more cold tolerant.
i had even gotten seeds of 2-3 varieties, but this Jan we had a 100yr cold snap to 20F
it killed every mango except 1 in ground that had to come back from the roots.

i mentioned this in a couple of posts in this group,
so you might do a search for my name and cold tolerant mango
i list the name of varieties from India i thought were promising.

this is at least 1 post i mention the indian seed...

Gomera 1 seeds wanted
« Reply #22 on: February 29, 2020, 09:43:26 AM »
Hi!
the year 2018 i got 3 mangos from Canarius, one of them being Gomera 1, all grafted on Gomera, and they all died. The reason was mostly the fact that the young plants had not yet grown a growing top. Also, it was windy the first days after planted.
In 2019, i got 2 Gomera 3 and one Gomera 1. They survived well all the winter, the temperature was never seen below +4 Celsius, but about the middle of February, when the weather started to remind of real Springtime, the one gomera 3 started to have its leaves dry and now all its leaves are drooping and dry. The other gomera 3, planted in a better place, since about 20 of February, when the weather improved, it is still pretty healthy, but the bigger leaves turned partly a little beige.
The Gomera 1 proved the healthiest of all, still now at the end of winter it looks a little worse than before.
I don't know what is going on, but i can say that Gomera 1 is better than other Gomera types. Also, from my little experience, i think that mango does not revive from roots once the top is completely dry.
Previously, i grew little mango trees from seeds, from tropical mangos bought from the market, and they were quite healthy in the winter, until it snowed, the snow destroyed them. This past winter we did not have any snow here.
So i am sure that if i plant Gomera mango seeds, they will be most successful. Of course, if i get to have fruit, i shall give seeds to anyone who needs.
The bottom line: IF YOU HAVE ANY GOMERA MANGO SEEDS, ESPECIALLY GOMERA 1 SEEDS, OR ANY OTHER SEEDS OF MANGO CONSIDERED HARDY, AND CAN SEND TO ME, PLEASE EMAIL ME ioakenanidATschDOTgr
Thank you!

Hello
Yes you are right Gomera 1 is stronger than Gomera 3. However Gomera 3 is uniform polyembrionic so it's more suitable for plantations. Gomera 1 has 40% variation so some plants are stronger than others.
the graft union is very important for cold hardiness. A plant grafted when is very young with stone grafting method had better chances of survival.
I graft my mangoes on Gomera 1 very low near the soil line, they overwinter at min 5C without problems, none die as long as they have light.

First planting outside should be done in early spring and only when the tree is 2 years old, at least
