mangosteen flowers
« on: April 24, 2020, 06:30:33 AM »
I have over 15 flowering Mangosteen trees, including 3 grafted ones.  I have noticed on one grafted plant, at each node 3 flowers occur and sometimes even 4. While on all other trees only one flower occurs at each node. Has anybody else noticed this phenomenon of multiple flowers?

Most of us would kill to have a flowering mangosteen, and are desperately trying to grow them :)

Mine is 10cm tall, I don’t know anything about their flowering pattern yet

I have 25 mature mangosteen trees that are flowering heavily right now for a September harvest. I looked at some and only find single flowers. G. Prainiana makes flowers and fruits in clusters and I don’t think it is desirable as it complicates the harvest if the fruits don’t ripen simultaneously.

Thank you, Peter. For me it does not matter as I grow them for personal consumption.

May just be a temporary "sport" behavior?

I don't think so. It has been flowering like this for the last 4 years.

Do you have any pics of the fruits once the develop from the cluster of flowers?

What root stock did you use for the grafted plant?
