I think this might be a Syzygium sp.

This is Eugenia uniflora "Etna Fire".The plant has a great ornamental value thanks to the ruby red coloured brilliant leaves, which becomes more and more intense in winter, giving colour to the gardens in a normally rather colourless period of the year.”Etna Fire should be ideal for hedges, requires hardly any maintenance and can survive temperatures down to -7° C.This Eugenia is covered in summer by small white flowers, followed by attractive red berries.

It sounds like a very ornamental shrub.  How is the fruit quality -- or is it better left to the birds?  Is it very sweet?  Does it have much of that resinous character?

Thanks,
John

Looks like Syzygium to me too, the fruit is wrong and Eugenia has much smaller leaves.

I agree. Reminds me of Syzygium australe or paniculatum

Definitely looks like Syzygium australe to me. It is certainly not Eugenia uniflora.
