Will OS and  piña colada be good candidates for the one whole method ?
Running out of space .

Thanks Ed

I don't think so OS is more on the vigorous side.
Pina is not vigorous at all

I agree with skhan, from what I’ve observed in my yard, Piña Colada is a much slower grower for me compared to Orange Sherbet. I think the Orange Sherbet will take over if you don’t prune the OS often to keep it in check.

It should not kill off one tree if planted correctly. You can see large trees planted in one in this video.

The trees in that video don't appear to really have all been planted "in the same hole".

Recommendation is the same 4' hole. Not close like those here.

Pc really is a slow grower. I had a multigraft with honey kiss and pineapple pleasure and hineykiss. Hk suffered random dieback of entire graft before putting out any new growth in early spring. Pc didn’t grow AT ALL and pp nearly took over the whole tree. I grafted ndm and mc Tobit. Pc graft stayed green from last season but no growth until last month when it put out 2 new shoots. It skipped the entire growing season and decided to show some life just as it’s dipping into the 40s at night.

Btw I’m in Detroit for the weekend. It’s 30 degrees here right now and I swear my yard feels like this at night during some winter nights. May explain why I get flowers in my 800 chill hour stone fruit trees that aren’t supposed to flower in my area. May also explain why I lost so many mangoes last year 🤦🏽‍♂️

Hello All,

Hopefully no one will be offended for resurrecting this thread from 2015.  I'm curious to see any updates or follow up information by the people that planted multiple mango trees in a single hole.  I'm looking for feedback for those that have multiple mango trees in a single hole that have been in the ground at least 3+ years.

I planted three trees (Manila, CAC, and Seacrest) in the same 4' x 4' hole two weeks ago.  This is more of an experiment for me as I had limited space and needed get the trees into the ground (the CAC and Seacrest are from Florida - purchased as 3 gallon trees 2 months ago).  The Florida trees were repotted into 5 gallon containers for 2 months after receiving them.  The Manila tree was purchased locally (Home Depot) three weeks ago as a backup tree should the Florida varieties not fare well.  I can always graft and top work the surviving trees or remove the non-performing (slow growing) tree(s) as needed.
