"Swingle " Nordmann kumquat
« on: April 18, 2016, 01:30:20 AM »
I just bout a kumquat pot  at Home Depot . It has the label : "swingle" Nordmann kumquat. I wonder if this is seedless Nordmann ? I hope it is seedless. I don't see anywhere in the label indicate it is seedless. Anyone has knowledge about this type of kumquat please let me know.
One more thing: what "swingle " mean?

All Nordmann should be seedless, thats what makes it Nordmann instead of just Nagami.

I wondered the same think about Kishu... saw "Kishu" and "Seedless Kishu" tags.  My understanding is Kishu is always seedless also and there's no seeded variety.

I agree that Nordmann is supposed to always be seedless. Thanks for the article/write up above, it was very interesting. Swingle would be the rootstock. Swingle is not as dwarfing as Flying Dragon rootstock so the Nordmann grafted or budded on Swingle would be larger than if grown on Flying Dragon. Tom

Thank you for all your replies. I have another question : does meiwa have seedless variety? I have meiwa, but there are seeds inside.

No seedless kumquats that I know of except Nordmann.  My Fukushu kumquats are much less seedy than my meiwas so you could try that.  However mine are greenhoused when they bloom, you might get just as many seeds as meiwa if you have pollinating insects during bloom.
