What should I start now, so I can enjoy while I am still alive?

I highly recommend Ginkgo tree. Very very slow grow.

I highly recommend Ginkgo tree.
I have one of these in a 3 gallon pot. Nice fall colors and you can make a tea with the leaves, but it's not exactly know for it's fruit... Here is a description I found online, "All agree the aroma is unpleasant but to what degree depends upon the person – some describing it as ripe camembert cheese or rancid butter, and others comparing it more to dog feces or vomit." ;D
OP, I assume you're talking about growing from seed? Maybe consider a Garcinia or Jabo.

As I am getting older I started to like it, I hated it when I were young.

I posted this in the wrong forum, can a moderator move it to the main one? My apologies for the mixup.

Why? What does it taste like? There is large Ginkgo’s planted as street tree’s here and I have never thought of them for fruit.

jaboticaba, durian, Garcinia dulcis, Garcinia mangosteena are all delicious, but can take 7-20 years depending on circumstances.
might be too north in the states to grow Durian. But damn, it really is the king of fruits!
Dulcis is amazing, but most people have never even tasted it. Picture the tastiest mangosteen but you can also eat the skin.

It is not the outter lay to eat. Eat the nut inside the shell. Of course, cook before eat. I put some of them when I make soup or dessert. That is a lot of nutrition.
Google "ginkgo dessert recipe", you will a lot of nutrition info and recipe for it.
It take up to 30 years before bear fruit. Extremely slow grow. "Your grow the tree and your grandson pick the fruit." A phrase in Chinese describe how slow the tree is growing.

Hesperomeles ferruginea

Ginko is male or female tree. It is a very good landscape tree in the cities as it tolerates pollution. I wouldn't recommend to grow it because its fruit smell very bad. But I did plant a male ginko tree for the landscape but no female

What about maprang?

True, my in-law has 2 sapodilla started from seeds. Took over 12 years before flowering.
The tree is huge, and bear a lot fruit each year.
