Wow that thing is VIGOROUS, how big do the trees get?

35m tall.  I suspect the enormous seed is responsible for the vigour.

Interesting....the leaves definitely look mangifer-ish.  But, the main trunk of the seedling reminds me of a durian.

When I saw it from my window, I had no idea what it was.  My first thought was a durio as well.  It looks very different from M. indica or M. odorata as a seedling.  In a few days I should see what M. laurina looks like.

Just got home from 6 weeks away and found my bambangan tree dead! All my other Mangifera species were fine.

I know it was well watered from rainfall while I was away.  I guess it was a fungus or virus or disease.  I found it with a leathery-looking black stem, no leaves and black seed full of insects.

Hmmmm.....not good news at all.  I have never had any mangifera seed do that to me.  But I sure have seen it in durian seedlings I have planted.  Maybe it shares more in common with durio than just a look of the new seedling stem.
