So I have been plantsitting for a friend for about a year now.  One of his trees is suppose to be a Pickering, but looks nothing like any Pickering fruit that I have seen.  Anyone have any idea of what variety this is?

Hi...Does anyone in Florida have Black Sorrel seeds for sale?

I'm in search of an excellent grafter in the Tampa Bay Area.  I have 2 mango trees that I would like to have top worked with multiple varieties.  Currently I have way too many mangos (all in pots) for the space that I have.  I would like to put 2 multi grafted trees in the ground while I'm searching for  a larger piece of property.  I'm willing to pay or if you might be interested in some things that I'm planning on getting rid of anyway that is also an option.

Thanks,

Rod

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ice Cream Mango
« on: June 08, 2016, 09:01:03 PM »
I have never tasted the Ice Cream Mango before & this may be my only chance since I will be getting rid of this tree.  How do you know when the fruit is ready/ripe?  There is only one mango, so I only have one shot!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Unknown Mango
« on: June 07, 2016, 08:40:32 PM »
Does anyone recognize this mango?  My friend bought this unmarked/unknown mango last year.  It's been in the ground 1-1.5 years. Last year the fruit were small, but this year there are a lot more fruit & they are much larger.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sweet Tart Blossoms
« on: January 08, 2015, 07:11:09 PM »
After last nights cold spell the blossoms on my Fairchild, Pickering, and Cogshall look great.  The blossoms on the Sweet Tart however have folded over like cooked spaghetti.  Does this mean that dreams of eating my first Sweet Tart mangos are over?

Any advice is appreciated.

« on: August 30, 2014, 01:24:36 PM »
Can anyone tell me where I can find a mango chart that lists the newer varieties (Sweet Tart, Coco Cream, etc.)?  I am mainly interested in harvest time and disease/fungus info.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First Keitt
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:01:48 AM »
I recently purchased some Keitt mangoes from The Fresh Market.  I had never tried them and was not expecting much.  I have eaten 2 out 3.  The first 2 have been extremely delicious!  I haven't had many varieties and I'm not saying its the best mango that I have tasted.   I can say that I will not be passing up any Keitts.   ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What is your favorite New mango variety?
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:28:25 PM »
I have not had mango trees long and I have only tried a few varieties.  The only newer variety that I have tried is Lemon Zest, which I like.  So I thought I would ask which is your favorite?  I have listed some but feel free to add any that I have missed.  I had not heard of any of these until I joined the forum.  Smh...no more shopping at Home Depot.

Lemon Zest, Pineapple Pleasure, Pina Colada, Sweet Tart, Peach Cobbler, Fruit Punch, Providence, Coconut Cream

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango Tasting
« on: July 16, 2014, 11:14:47 PM »
I went to South Florida this weekend and tasted some mangoes I had never tried before.  My favorites from the weekend are below.

Alphonso - Very good
Angie - The first one was really disappointing, I even felt cheated.  >:(. The second one tasted soooo amazing!
Fairchild - Very good
Lemon zest - Over ripe but still tasty. Can't wait to try another one.
Maha Chanok - Excellent

When I bought my first mango about two years ago I had no idea there were so many mango varieties.  Also, I had no idea of the addiction that comes with mangoes.   ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Nam Doc Mai Question
« on: July 06, 2014, 04:11:08 PM »
I recently bought some mangoes (Cogshall, Glenn, Zill, Southern Blush, Nam Doc Mai) from a mango farm near Tampa.  I have seen pics (Fairchild) of Ripe Nams that the outside is yellowish with a lil pink blush, but I have also seen pics (PIN) of green Nams that looked ripe.  I tried the first green Nam about 4 days after purchase and it was completely unripe :(. About 7 days later the 2nd Nam starting getting a lil soft and not as green so I tried it out.  Of course it was better than the 1st, but still did not live up to the hype.

How do you tell when a Nam is ripe?  How many types of Nams are there and how do you tell the difference?

This is how I ranked the mangoes on taste only (1-5 with 5 being the highest).
Cogshall - 4.5
Glenn - 4
Zill - 3.8
Southern Blush - 1.5 (smelled like Pine Sol)  :(
Nam - Can't fairly judge at this time

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Glenn, Graham, or Irwin Mango
« on: June 15, 2014, 11:27:41 AM »
Hello,

I have a Cogshall, Lancetilla, and Pickering mango.  I would like to get 1 or 2 more varieties.  I am considering the Glenn, Graham, or Irwin mango.  I need help deciding based on flavor, compactness (would like room for 2),  and disease resistance.  If you have either of these varieties preferably more than one let me know what you think.  Unfortunately, I can't have all three.   :(

Thanks,

Rod B.
