Does anyone know anything about a dwarf longan. There are some old fruiting trees in Sarasota area that are no more than 10-15 ft tall with low bushing growth habit. Although, don’t know for sure if it is the same species as Dimocarpus longan. Pics attached.
Who else is growing Genipa americana in Florida? My tree is small but with the rain it’s growing fast. I planted it under the high canopy of live oaks.
Please, share your observations. What is the lowest temperature that your Genipa americana went through?
I can find very little info about Pouteria dominigensis. Anyone grows or knows about it? What does the fruit taste like? Is it worth growing? Any insight is appreciated.
Is anyone growing Clavija lehmannii? I would LOVE to know how hardy it is? Any other tips or remarks are most welcome. I have germinated some seeds and the internet info is very scant.
I have two plants of "lemon drop mangosteen" from two different sources and both look different. Is it due to variation among G. intermedia or they are two different species under one common name? I almost think that lemon drop #1 is in fact G. humilis (achachairu)
Does anyone know what is most likely sold in US as Cinnamomum zeylanicum? I have a tree and would love to identify it (pics below). Unfortunately, I missed the flowering until next time.
Is there a good descriptive source or ID key for the genus Cinnamomum?
It was Sweetheart, a nicely grown five-years-old tree, that bloomed for the first time. It set only one fruit and suddenly the emerging growth got stunted and wilted, the old leaves got brown, but didn’t fall off. It is dead!
I’ve read in one post here it might have been a root pathogen that caused it. Does anyone know what it actually is and how to prevent it?
Does anyone else grow Licania platypus? It is a very attractive tree, especially new growth. I haven't try the fruit yet. May be someone can share sunsapote fruit taste description?
Does anyone grow and fruit Jackfruit in the shade or under the canopy of other trees? I realize that full sun would yield more fruit, but what if the only spot available is under tall oak trees.
One is pretty toxic (illicium anisatum) one is little toxic (illicium verum). Both look VERY similar. The latter is true star anise. Can these two "star anise" plants be distinguished visually based on morphological features?
