First flowers on my Cherimoya
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:52:54 PM »
So of course my precious seed grown cherimoya is full of flower buds right before I go away on vacation. Does anyone have any idea just when these guys will be open for hand pollinating?

The larger one will open within the week, perhaps in a couple of days.. The others are some time off and will be waiting for your return from vacation (as long as you aren't going to be gone a month).

This branch looks a little weak. Fruit will weigh it down and cause a permanent bend. You should try to pollinate flowers on thicker branches if possible.
Hope it's a good variety.

Congrats! Just try to give it some support with a stick.

This "tree" is only about 4 feet tall and has two main branches. I will fruit prune to only allow one fruit to grow if any of them take. I'll have to rig up some sort of support for the fruiting branch. I'm just thrilled to go from seed to blooming plant in three years. Most of my tropical seedlings take forever to get anywhere near blooming size. Once I get done traveling and the plants recover from the high heat and wind damage I'll post pictures of the whole collection.

Thanks for the advice!
