I'm VERY close to competing my backyard project. One thing missing is a mango, so I'd like to find where I can buy a lemon zest mango. I've called around a little, no luck. So I think my options are buy 3g at Plantagram or plant a 5g or 15g Manila then graft a lz scion. Input please? I want whatever will fruit fastest.
Thanks in advance.
MY PROJECT!!!!

What would be the preference of root stock?
It seems the popular root stock in California is Manila, but then we do see ataulfo and turpentine occasionally.

According to Behl and JF, the best rootstock seems to be manilla and ataulfo in southern cal. I haven't experimented with enough root stocks to know so I went by their recommendations.

Found one with turpentine. What would be the downsides of turpentine vs the other 2?

Turpentine rootstock grows slower and droopy in socal. Manila/ataulfo rootstocks grow better in our dry climate. Do a search on the forum, jf posted some pics turpentine vs manila/ataulfo, u can see a huge difference between the rootstocks.

Would I be best off with a La Verne 5g Manila then graft lz on to it?
I've been into plants my whole life, but have to admit I'm a noob with mangoes. So I appreciate the help. Seems like rliou you or (JF later) might have the best remedy for me?

I am not from California however I would have to think the only Lemon Zest on Turpentine would have originated from Florida.
