I only have room for two smaller mangoes. I haven't tried any of these CVs but can imagine all are wonderful fruits. Which ones would you plant and why?

I would probably pick Fairchild

Out of those4, Fairchild and Mahachanok. I would opt for Fairchild and Honey Kiss. These three are all very good with a complex flavor.
NDM is just kind of a plain sweet mango. No complexity. Ck shall is kind of like a Glenn in that it is inconsistent and can be mild and watery. It is also very soft textured.

Fairchild fruits are on the small side and have a nice light taste. Plus the tree is a reliable producer! It won't play games with you.

Got a Fairchild on Bullies advice when I was looking for a medium, manageable/pruneable tree. It is doing great, and hopefully next year will get to try some from my own tree. Still trying to find room or a friends house to place the honey kiss lol

I have two Fairchild trees. They grow faster than Nam Doc Mai #4. Medium fast grower. Not an upright grower. More of a low and wide grower. You can always prune to hold them back to smaller size

Good to have verification. How low? lol I planted it about 6 ft from my driveway. But can always park the truck in the swale LOL

This sounds right inline with the growing parameters I'm looking for. How do you feel about its precociousness, productivity, fruit quality?

Above average on the first two. The fruit is not as sweet as some of the new Zills but who wants just really sweet fruits. Alex-Squam says he has solid demand for Fairchild at his grove.
Note that fruits are on the small side.
The fruits are green then get yellowish three days before ripe.

I am curious as to why Cogshall was not recommended here. More to do with the fruit quality or the tree characteristics?

can't describe it but cogshall is in the same category as fairchild....ok, but just something that's off. The tree is small and manageable though from what I understand.

Cogshall is a smaller, slow growing tree. Fruit is colorful (nicknamed the Easter Egg mango by some) but has some similar flaor issues as the Glenn. It ihas a propensity to being mild and having at times a washed out flavor. Texture is soft too, not Carrie "mush" but still softer than I would prefer.
I really like Fairchild. It does have a strong "muskiness" similar to Indian mangoes which is probably why I like it.

Also, I have experienced production issues with Cogshall. It is not nearly as disease resistant as Fairchild.

Thanks. I have actually killed 3 Cogshalls through the years. I think it says a lot more about my inability to grow trees in containers than about Cogs itself.
When I bought some Fairchild fruit from Alex I realized I had been unfairly disrespecting them for twenty-some years. Now I think I was mixing it up with Florigon. Both have an "F" and an 'L' and it doesn't take much to confuse me.

You may be able to get a Fairchild at the Fairchild event, but there has never been, nor is there likely to be a Maha for sale there.

Good looking out, I've never been so don't really know what to expect. I'd prefer to pick up a 7-10gal if at all possible.

In the past, PIN has grafted their trees, so if you want a tree, you can get it from them (or possibly even Bender's Grove) for the same price...one less thing to worry about at the festival.

You guys are a wealth of knowledge. My local nursery has a 7gal Fairchild I'm going to check out. Would you say the Fairchild is on par with Honey Kiss across the board?

Fairchild off of my tree this year was awesome. Fairchild seems to be a moderate grower in my yard, at about the same pace as Carrie. Im not sure if this is the universal experience or just my yard. And its a very atrractive tree. No disease issues at all.
The mangos arent brightly colored and this is good ; less attractive to 2 legged critters....just my limited experience. NDM is a delicious and adding an asian mango , if you dont have one, may be the thing to do. Im not sure why NDM isnt a firat choice other than splitting issues, which may not be a problem in your area (my neighbors tree hasnt had a problem )

NDM is a "basic" sweet mango. Good for someone who is just looking for that however if you are looking for something more in terms of complexity from an Asian/Thai, look towards a Mahachanok.

I have seen them slow and moderate growers, it seems to vary based on location. They can probably be kept in the 10 - 12 foot range with proper pruning. I think you would do better at 15 feet but thats your call.
Yes, Excalibur has some very nice 7 and 15 gallon specimens. PM me for info.

Yeah, im trying to keep them around 10' so I can cover them in the winter. Gets cold here in Sanford

Going off a tangent here.....this is the first Pickering off my little 7g potted tree!! Shared it with my daughter and boy was it good! Had that pina colada/coconut taste. Can't wait for the tree to get bigger so it will pump out this yummy fruit
