Longans aren't easier to grow than lychees, they are just easier to get them to fruit. I think longan is a more widely adapted plant. Lychees more fussy about exact climate to stimulate flowering. Also with longan there is the magic bullet: potassium chlorate. It's possible though that some day similar solution will be found for the lychee.

fruilovers

Would you please share the trick how to get longan fruit
my relatives have longan trees, but most of them get very little fruit or none
sometimes they have flowers, but won't produce fruit. Or they will become fruits but will fall at the very early stage

Thank you so much

JF----Thank you for sharing. Your fruit trees are always very impressive.

Rootstock is what you grow from seed to use for grafting later on. Similar to the annonas you grafted at Stephen's place, you grafted a scion from a named variety onto your rootstock.

Growing a seedling tree means growing any fruit tree from seed, for the purpose of having a fruit tree later on. But that's pretty much a gamble in most seeds as for fruit production and quality. Makes sense? I sorta?

crystal clear

thanks Tim

in this case, I want to grow a seed into a tree (not for rootstock)
because beggers cant' be choosers hihihi

do you have Alano sapodilla seeds for sale or trade? I would be interested. Thank you

Seeds for rootstock?

murahilin

i am asking for seeds
I believe he was asking for what purpose are you wanting the seeds.

Yup. I would like to know the purpose because if you are looking for seed for rootstock I may have some sapodilla seeds to share but if you are looking to grow an Alano seedling I wouldn't have any seeds to share.

what's the difference between "seed for rootstock" and " "you are looking to grow an Alano seedling ?

sorry for my ignorance. I am so new to growing stuff :)

I want some seeds, so that I can get them germinated and grow into an alona tree
not sure if I made sense here

Yep... Still all there, sorry you had to destroy a seed just for this.

VyVy - I hope others with more experience can chime in. I mostly sow them fresh right out of the fruit, other times I throw them in a zip lock bag with moist paper towel, wait until they sprout and then put them in soil. Sowing fresh seeds normally take longer for me.  With old seeds, I'd soak for a day prior to zip lock treatment.

Thanks Tim

my friends from TX said the same thing, they just throw the seeds to the garden and they grow within a about 2 weeks

So far 5 confirmed going. Please bring plenty of grafting knives, tape, etc. Also visual instructions printed out of different grafts would be a great help. Bringing your own folding chair will help out as well.

nullzero

would you please tell me where I can get this grafting knife?
thanks

I will bring a sugar apple tree and some scions for Atemoya, but I don't know how to havest/collect the scion, Would someone please post a clear photo of the scion. Thanks

I also bought some grafting tapes and would healing spray. I don't know if it's the right tape, but the salesperson told me it is

ps. I have never grafted or seen grafting materials in my life, I watched Youtuble, and read around, then I went to buy the tapes and the spray, not sure if they are the right stuff
I will also bring 2 cherimoya tree, smaller than pencil size, but that's all I could find, not sure if they are big enough for grafting yet
