Love the trees! Great job keeping everything so healthy. Great collection of mangoes and other fruiting trees, the Lancetilla looks tasty. How are the prickly pears from the neighbor?
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Hey Joe,

Everything looks great.  Man things are sure getting big.  This past spring and summer were awesome for us here in Southern California and your trees and their condition are proof of that.  Great Job!!

It's a jungle there. NICE. Have to get my yard like that :D . How old and tall is your Lancetilla tree? Everytime I see Lance tress with mature fruit on it, I have second thoughts about yanking mine out of the ground. I've got about 2yrs left till it can/allowed to bear. Your Alano looks similair to mine in size and spread, and I like the look of your Hasya and Silas wood. Nice collection :) .

No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)

JF  is the West Coast Prince 'Arry. Minus the Vegas pool parties. Lots and lots of mango flushing going on which is why JF got revved up and posted these inspirational photos. Inspirational because growing these tropicals is tough in arid LA while we have it easy in SE Florida

Here is an August 2012 East Coast banana explosion in my suburban (zip  code 33321) back yard >>>> Mangoes (Kent and Gold Nugget) and citrus trees (oro blanco and others) also in this photo. I have been cutting down and mulching (using as mulch) banana leaves and plants that are shading my real and enduring stuffs like mango trees

Its been a perfect year weather wise for the tropical loving plants in SoCal. Winter was mild, got some warm spikes in spring. Summer has been warm (but not to hot) with humidity hovering over 50% in most parts during the day.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Yes, Nulls, the humiditiy has been unusually high even out here in the desert.
Uncomforatable for humans but I know the plants LOVE it for a change!  (and by the way,
sorry I could not make your grafting get together the other day - mangos are very tough
to do out here if I do them at the same time you guys do them - too scorching hot for
the scions to take!)

JF - remarkable growth and care for those trees of yours.  Since my stuff is all done
fruiting, I think next year we should do a mango-tasting get together out here at my place
on some Saturday or Sunday like in August and do another at your place in a following month

Anyway, we'll talk soon, Mr. Ott....  :P

Mangofang,

Don't worry about it, there will be plenty of times to organize get togethers. Perhaps have a grafting party and get together in the spring.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Thanks everyone for you nice comments.

Null - I really don't like prickly pears. I give them to my mom she loves them.

Ant21 - I'll keep my eyes open for your posting.

TnTrobbie  - the Lancetilla has been in the ground since Jan.2011 and it's about6-7 feet tall when it straightens out. It was a large tree when I purchased it in a 20" gallon. It had two massive fruits last year and they were horrible, we'll see this year. They should be ready in a month.

zands - absolutely! I was motivated by the new growth. I think I did the right thing by letting most of my mangos rest this year.

simon_grow -  Glenn's are awesome! Nice peachy, citrusy flavor and very creamy. I got 2 in my fruit basket ripening. I'll cut one open. They are also the first mangos to ripen this year Aug. 3rd.

MangoDog and Null - we'll do something the beginning of May next year.

Glenns are my first mangoes and were delicious this year (ate my first June 1) not watery despite the spring rains. I bought a Glenn tree only because Murray Corman used to talk them up on his radio show here in S Florida. Glenn are excellent mango tree at least in my book. Gold Nugget is very good on the late side eaten here as late as August 20th. GN= Not as late as Keitt but still very good. The Keitt report from neighbor's tree is that half his Keitts are still hanging on tree as of yesterday August 24th

My Neelam tree and Pin Seng Mun tree  ---- I should have stripped all fruit off of. I got one PSM and tasted like an awful canned pear. My little Neelam held 15 fruits but after eating two of them that tasted awful I stripped off all the rest. Both are young trees so......

My point being that especially on Neelam which has not grown at all this spring and summer due to spending so much resources on fruiting. Big mistake. It might set zero fruit next year since it put forth so much fruiting effort this year. Neelam---  definitely should have had all fruits stripped off 3 months ago before I finally did so

2013 mango year in my yard will be very good with lots of trees coming into their own. Obama might be president or Romney might be president but all our fruit trees soldier on (best they can) despite the economy and despite the political scene

ZZZzzz

Very nice pics.  I love seeing the Southern California Stuff.  With 17 different mangos you definitely have a disease.  I thought I was bad with 12 different Mangos.  Almost all of my mangos have recently flushed also.  I think the heat wave of the past couple of weeks has really made the mango trees happy.

What is your largest tree?  What would you say is your most vigorous tree?

Thanks for the update,
Bill

thanks Pasca,Vyvy and Bill.
For you guys in Socal you will be surprise what we can grow down here.

Vyvy - all the trees are mine. I live in a residetial neighborhood.

Bill -  I got a few more pics I will post later. My most vigorous and largest tree is the Glenn 8-9'...has been in the ground since Jan. 2011 and it grows steady the whole year. I believe my Lemon Zest and Pina Colada are probably just as vigorous. They have double their size in less than a year.
