Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help with Indentification and Treatment
« on: January 25, 2017, 01:56:45 PM »
I just spotted this on my NDM this morning. Any idea what it is and how to treat it?

Thanks!

What is that on the side? It was underground in it's original pot. I thought maybe it's the original
seed pod but don't remember it being this size/shape. If it is, would the plant still be relying on it
as it's developed a healthy root system.

Lastly, should I rebury it and leave as is?

How soon after a seed sprouts into a plant can/should you begin fertilizing (say something like Dyna-Gro Liquid Grow 9-7-5)?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Gac Seeds Anyone?
« on: September 24, 2016, 06:19:43 PM »
I purchased some Gac seeds from Thailand via Amazon and have more than I will
ever plant or need.

If anyone in continental U.S. would like some, they are free and I only ask for payment
for mailing. I will send a minimum of 5 seeds and possibly more, depending on interest.

Please PM me if you are interested.

I uncovered one of the seeds and placed it next to the plant. I assume the silver sheen on the
seed is from the packing medium.

Missing a label on this one. The leaves have a rough texture on the top and the
edges have a fine, hairlike feel.

Walked out back to find this Dragon Fruit bloom on my grape arbor. The person I
purchased the DF from labeled it as Physical Graffiti.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What an Amazing Forum
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:48:15 AM »
Recently, I lost some purchased seeds due to one package going through Miami and
the 2nd batch due to knocking over the growing container. Both sellers have offered
to send me replacements at no charge ( I would love to mention their names but suspect
they prefer I not). The members of TFF are generous in sharing their supplies and their
knowledge.

Thank you!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / White Jade Pineapple
« on: July 29, 2016, 11:32:39 AM »
2 years after I purchased some little 4" white jades from Adam, I was finally able to pick the first of 3 growing out back. WOW, was it ever
worth the wait. It was still warm from the late afternoon sun and tasted as sweet as candy. The core was so soft that you wouldn't know
you're eating it except for seeing the circular pattern. I am by no means a pineapple aficionado, but I don't think I could eat another pineapple
after trying the white jade.

The 1st strong band from Colin just passed through with rain almost horizontal. I suspect I
will find a lot of mangoes on the ground come tomorrow morning.

I couldn't find any information as to how many years to fruit when grown from seed. Any members know?

Citrus General Discussion / What's the Culprit
« on: April 26, 2016, 05:56:33 PM »
I remember this issue being discussed before could could not find the post or how
to search for it.

This is the back of a moro blood orange leaf (the light makes it appear much more
yellow than it is.

What's attacking it and what should I apply to take care of it?

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How Long for a Graft to Bud?
« on: October 12, 2015, 08:18:16 PM »
I purchased mango scions from George and grafted them on some of my mango trees. I grafted
a juicy peach scion on my carrie (10/1/15) and on my nam doc mai (10/6/15) and both have a small bud
breaking through on the ends. That's 11 days on one tree and 6 days on the other. Seems way to
soon, or should I expect them to die off? This was my first attempt at grafting. The other grafts (pina colada,
lemon meringue and coconut cream) are showing no new growth.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lychee Pruning Time?
« on: July 24, 2015, 08:47:34 PM »
I planted my sweetheart tree last fall and it hasn't produced any fruit yet. It is putting out a lot of new foliage though. I
thought I read that summer is the time to prune here in Florida but was hesitant to cut off the new growth. Thoughts?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What Are They?
« on: June 06, 2015, 08:19:12 PM »
I lost the tags on these 2 and can't remember what I have.

The leaves are white when they first develop (plant on right) and later when they turn green they have
a white, silk-like coating (plant on left).

Thanks!
