Not well, there is a long hedge by me, the Areas hit by sun flower profusely while the areas hit by shade lack. If your looking for max fruit production i would full sun.

In general, anything you eat needs a lot of sun power. Will stuff grow in shade and makes seeds trying to ultimately survive... Sure. Goes for everything. I am speaking of Deep shade. All little trees need some shade.

Exotica nursery claims they will - last time I visited they had quite a few fruit on their mature surinam cherry trees that were in fairly deep shade. Taste was good.

Surinam cherries have a lot of sourness and the ones growing in the shade are just nos sweet enough for me. But i like really sweet fruit, anyways.😹
