When should I put these Paw Paw plants in the ground?
« on: April 29, 2020, 10:25:35 PM »
I got these 3 from an online vendor about a month and a half ago. They came with very little soil and no leaves. The warmer weather has really helped them leaf out. I've read that Paw Paw don't like their roots disturbed, so I'm thinking to put them inground as soon as feasible. What do you guys think?
Thanks,

You can plant them any time you wish but they will really dislike to get their roots disturbed any time but especially more when they have leaf out.
I would plant them like they are ,all 3 together or id try to separate only one and leave the otther 2 together.
Thiss also depends how the roots are intercalated. If you are lucky  ,they will separate easyer.

I suspect the trees your talking about are the tree of heaven ,Ailanthus Altissima.
The trees in the pot do look like Ailanthus seedlings a little.

Oh damn, so these are "golden rain trees".
Would you guys keep them? I googled the name "Koelreuteria paniculata" for some info. They're landscape trees. Geez, I'll probably throw them away.
Time to dig up the receipt and ask for correct replacements. Here's a photo taken just now.
Thanks,

Here in Greece they are very common and i really dislike them so i wouldnt keep them. But i would first confirm that they are "golden rain trees". Lets see what the other members will think

Bless your heart! Those sure as heck ain’t paw paws! I had a few golden rain trees from Arbor Day about 15 years ago, but they aren’t worth fooling with I’d definitely contact the shipper and request a refund. I’d also start shopping for a local source of paw paw trees potted for sale. You need to get them in ground before it gets hot outside so they can get roots used to the site do they don’t dry out in heat of summer. Remember that young paw paws don’t do well in direct sun and like deep organic soil.
