Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Luma apiculata dieback

I tried growing it out here in AZ.  It was watered well, but my summer heat fried it and maqui berry.
Not sure how much heat they can take, but, I think central FL might be too hot.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: GuavaKing on ebay - Scam?
« on: June 27, 2022, 11:59:41 PM »
Well, I was reading on this site that you needed to buy Mexican cream guava from a reputable seller and the varieties they have at the big box stores sell trees that create poor quality fruit.
So, I went onto guavaking on ebay and purchased an air layered mexican cream guava 3 years ago.
Then, about a week after purchase, I read on here not to buy from guavaking.  🤦‍♂️
All I can say is that the tree is in the ground and growing quite well.  I'll give an update if it ever fruits.

Is shipping to AZ available?

Not saying this is it, but, water deprivation will cause citrus to rebloom.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fertilizer question
« on: May 18, 2022, 01:13:39 AM »
Well, I was buying small, 15 $ bag of guava fertilizer online.  It perked mine up.  But, I think I can do cheaper.
I have alkaline, clay soil and I was not fertilizing them at all.  They were all light green and puny.  Started fertilizing and they turned dark green and look a million times better.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fertilizer question
« on: May 17, 2022, 01:18:44 AM »
What name brand fertilizer do you use for best results on your guava trees?
Also, I had been lightly fertilizing mine monthly during the growing season and that seemed to work pretty well.  How often us everyone else fertilizing?

Hey ahosey01, I live in Scottsdale AZ and I am a citrus/fruit tree enthusiast.  If you are ever looking to graft I have a few unique varieties and over next couple of years, should be getting fruit, seeds if you want any.
Very jealous to hear about your evenings, lol.

Following.  Annie's annuals and perennials used to have them, but, not anymore.  Have been looking for a plant and can't find one anywhere.

If you could a more flavorful, not bland fruit of Icaco,  I would definitely have interest in those seeds, as well as your eugenias.

Considering the slightly new varieties.  I am trying to read up on them, but, I find some inconsistencies in what I read.  Looking between gold nugget, Shasta gold, Yosemite gold and Tahoe.
1st consideration is that I don't want alternate bearing.
Second is, I don't want too much tart.
And 3 would be if anyone knows which would grow best in desert.  Thanks!

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Pears in southern CA
« on: February 03, 2022, 11:22:43 PM »
I am growing 3 varieties in Scottsdale,  AZ.
Seckel, Waddell Giant, and Ayers.
Seckel has fruited regularly.  Waddell Giant has not fruited yet and I just planted Ayers.  From everything I read, these have the best potential to produce good fruit with low chill.
Ayers is hard to find.  Bought mine on ebay.  As far as I know, Waddell giant is only sold at RSI nursery in glendale, AZ.  I have heard the fruit is really good.  Got flowers last spring, hoping for fruit this year.
Also, although I don't know the exact method, you are supposed to pick pears ubripe, and then store them in a cool, dry, dark area for uniform and best flavor.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is eugenia Florida self fertile?
« on: February 01, 2022, 11:46:07 PM »
I purchased seeds a few years back of e. Florida.  They sat in the ground for about a year and then early this fall, they all seemed to pop up at the same time.
My property is small.  I want to keep the minimum I need and then share the rest with any board members in Phoenix metro.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Selling: some plants for sale
« on: February 01, 2022, 11:43:25 PM »
I know there is a current question of the integrity of some seller(s) on here.  Never needed to give negative feedback yet.  But, I do want say that Abimael is a great seller.  The quality of his trees and shipping is outstanding.   His prices are exceptionally reasonable.
Only time I get upset with Abimael is when he posts an add and I already have the tree, lol.

I have a very large male kei apple at my and I am desperately trying to find a female so I can get fruit.

73
I think the growers in FL and CA are lucky when it comes to group sales and we always get the short end of the stick in AZ.
Seriously, take him up on the offer.  I really wish we had enough AZ members to do something like this.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need advice on whether to ask for a refund
« on: January 16, 2022, 12:59:51 AM »
This isn't tropical, but, I think I'll get more views here and I need advice.   I purchased at Cox's orange pippen grafted apple tree and it came with about 95% of the graft broken.  There is still a tiny amount.  I want opinions if I should demand a refund/or new plant or will it recover?

Can't say anything about the tree, but hang in there with that dog.  We have a blue heeler as well.  The first year, it was like living with a Tasmanian devil.  After that, she calmed down and has been the best, most loving dog I have ever had.  Such a wonderful breed.
