Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado pruning question
« on: November 10, 2014, 12:31:36 PM »
Do you guys think that I could get away with topping a Brogdon Avocado this time of year? It is about 15 feet tall and I would like to take about 3 to 4 feet off of the top.

Thanks,
Alex

Well we will see, I am taking both of your advice and picking you off all but two flowers. We will see if it even sets fruit.
Thanks so much!

This is a seed from my one Coconut Cream mango is it poly?

Thanks so much, I have been thinking that it was some sort of nutrient deficiency. What should I look for in the future? If I do find anything what's the best option for dealing with them?

Here are some pictures of the backs of the leaves.

I can't upload a picture at the moment but I will asap. I did take a look at the back of the leaves and noticed that the affected leaves had tiny black spots. What do you think this could be?

Thanks for the help it is greatly appreciated!

Can anyone help me identify what is wrong with this leaf? It is happening on a Coconut cream and a Carrie. It only affects some of the older leaves. My guess is some sort of deficiency but I can't figure it out.

I ordered a Luc's Garcinia from Mr. Shafron and I got to tell you it was a great experience! I am not used to having plants shipped but Adam made it an easy and great transaction. He answered all my stupid questions and made sure the plant arrvived safely. I hope Flyingfoxfruits nursery stays around for a long time to come.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sapodilla care
« on: May 02, 2014, 04:23:14 PM »
Hello all

I bought a Haysa Sapodilla at the BRFC plant sale last weekend. I have no Sapodilla experience but to me it looks like it was recently repotted and may be planted a little to deep, I can dig down two and a half inches before I reach the roots.

Is that to deep for a Sapodilla? Should I remove some soil from the top or leave it the way it is?

Thanks,
Alex

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Oro Negro growth rate?
« on: March 10, 2014, 07:37:15 AM »
To all of you out there growing Oro Negro trees, how vigorous are they? I have had one in the ground for around two years now and it is only four and a half feet tall yet looks very bushy and healthy. On the other hand I have a Brogdon that is much younger that grows like a weed. Is my Oro Negro a dud?

Thanks,

Alex

I believe it is a Murcott(don't count on my spelling).

Actually JF the roostock is another question I have. From readimg other posts about Lisas and roostck issues how do I know if my Lisa is on Cherimoya roostock? And how hard is it to graft them? If its relatively easy I might take you up on your offer.

Thanks

JF,
Beautiful tree! You absolutely know how to grow an atemoya. It looks like its a pretty vigorous grower, how would you describe it's growth? Could you also describe how you get such great results?

Sunworshiper,

I saw that thread after I posted the question. It's very good to hear that the accidental pruningworked out well for you.

As an aside from the pruning question anyone have any advice on how to take care of this thing? Thos really is my first atemoya tree and I would like for it to be as fruitful as possible (of course). So any advice on growing or pruning is welcome.

Thanks for all of the great responses!

JF
I saw that and I will follow those instructions in the future. But right now I have a six foot twig with two branches and wanted to know if I could just chop it down to 2 or 3 feet and have it survive with a better branching structure. I could also use any advice on growing an Atemoya in general since this is my first.
