Jeff, thanks for handling this!
And count me in for a contribution

I am in your camp. I hate store bought papayas. It is the musky and/or vomit flavor combination that I really object to. I also don't like musk melons either, they have a similar flavor component.

I do like Hawaiian solos which we can get at the international market.

But my favorite is Tainung #2. I have grown it in my yard and I have had it grown off two of my friends trees. And the flavor is consistent between all 3 of our yards. And it is delicious! - http://desertvalleyorchard.blogspot.com/p/tainung-2-papaya.html

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Guava scions ?

I forgot to ask do you have to Put a plastic bag over it if you already rapped the graft and scion in parafilm ?

Nope. The parafilm preserves the moisture in the scion.

I have had good luck just cleft grafting. I use buddy tape to wrap the leafless scions and grafting rubbers to secure the union. I then wrap the union in buddy tape after I rubber band it.

Yep, same for me: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=26735.msg319698#msg319698

How long did yours  take for you to see growth in the graft ?

About 2 weeks. But keep in mind it did the graft when everything was pushing vigorously in spring. But I bet the summer grafting will be just fine, just might not be a fast/vigorous as the spring bud push when there is lots of stored energy in every part of the plant

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Dragon Fruit Cuttings for Sale
« on: June 28, 2018, 09:14:48 AM »
FamilyJ,

You were asked to add prices to your list. And then you edited the main post and you did add prices. Now I look at your edited list and you don't have prices listed.

Please maintain the price of your items in all your edits of the post, per the Buy, Sell, Trade forum rules. Otherwise I will remove it.

My Pitangatuba are sour, but most definitely sweet too. Certainly nothing like a lemon. I find they have better flavor when you pick them when they are bright yellow (no green) and ready to fall off on their own. Then bring inside and sit on the counter for a day. They develop an orange-yellow color. They are excellent that way.

Here is my plant and the ripe fruit: http://desertvalleyorchard.blogspot.com/p/pitangatuba.html

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Cameroon seeds

Kynep,

Besides posci having tracking issues above, there is another report that another forum member received an invalid tracking number. Please address my question above from May 7. And assuming that you have legal means to harvest and ship these seeds, please rectify the tracking number issues that buyers seem to be having with you.

In order to post items for sale on this forum, the item prices and shipping prices must be stated in the post.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Cameroon seeds
« on: May 07, 2018, 02:35:43 PM »
Hello all! On Tuesday, my friend and I arrived in Cameroon, and we are going to visit the Korup National Park in search of rare seeds. Perhaps someone has a certain interest in some, do not hesitate to contact! Best regards!

Kynep,

I am asking because I don't know the answer. Is it legal to collect fruit and seeds from the Korup National Park?

In the US, it is illegal to collect seeds / plants from National Parks for the general public. Or it is legal if you have a dispensation (e.g. you are a botanist collecting samples with the park's permission).

Please confirm that these seeds are legally obtained.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango Bud Grafting T-Bud Graft Method
« on: April 10, 2018, 05:43:20 PM »
It's not necessary to completely cover the bud.

here in CA bud will dry-out if not 100% covered with Buddy tape due to humidity that is in teens every time we go above 85-90 degrees.

Yep, especially true here in AZ

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Do you like jujube fruit?
« on: April 04, 2018, 06:40:02 PM »
Honey Jar is excellent. Very flavorful. GA-866 is also an excellent flavorful jujube (but a very shy bearer). These are my favorites.
Shanxi Li is a very close second for flavor. And also very moist by jujube standards. Has a huge plus that the fruit is very large compared to most jujubes

Li tastes like styrofoam, and has the same texture.

I also had another variety (Indian Green?, something named like that) that was wonderful! It almost had a pear flavor to it. I need to try and track that one down.

Yes, these are still under patent. I will move this to temperature fruit as well.
