The bark does look like an Annona. Leaves look closer to something else, interesting.

This will be interesting to see. I can't wait to see the results. What are you aiming for yield wise? 4-5 fruits from each variety?

Nullzy. I'm just hoping half of them will take and then I'll think about yield. I believe I have the timing right this time. 80 percent of my grafts have take so far this year. I've been working with small and medium cherimoya container seedlings and my atemoya and ilama which are on the ground. I'm at 100% with the container about 60% with the trees that are on the ground. I was adviced by Dario and other cherimoya experts to start my cherimoya grafts the first week of April. I hope it work.

Interesting, I need more practice with grafting and success. I am going to be working on trying to graft the other cherimoya seedlings I have. Btw, would you be interested in Taiwan (cherimoya/atemoya, it was obtained from Roger Meyer) budwood in the future?

Great thing about your multigraft tree, is you can see first hand which varieties will perform well with the best fruit. Much better then trying to plant out all those varieties :P

Soren,

Nice job! This was one of the plants I wanted to try sometime. I think it would do well in Southern California interior locations.

3232
Mangofang,

You definitely have an advantage with pests and diseases in the desert. I think once the critters find out the mango oasis in the desert... it may be an active battle to keep them under control.

Theobroma grandiflorum, did the same thing to me. I had less then optimal humidity conditions. I am thinking of not trying to grow any Theobroma, until I get a nice greenhouse in the future.

3234
Adam,

I vote go for it  :P, if Soren is up for a trade with a great guy. This sounds like your type of plant, big sweet fruit with edible leaves. Very hard to pass up a dual food use plant.

Forgot to mention I grafted alupag onto longan...and some are pushing!

Bill whitman said he grafted some that grew like weeds, but didn't flower as abundantly as his marcotted alupags.

I think your lychee longan grafts should work

Adam,

That is an interesting graft.

3236
Some resources online state it gets about 14-20m in height. Perhaps in FL, and other non ultra tropical locations it would be a tad smaller. Very interesting tree, the leaves are edible as well.

3237
Impressive list Ethan.

Adam,

I don't know if this picture will help you. Here is a picture of a 'Jewel' blueberry.

Slowest growing for me is Stenocereus gummosus, it does not look like it has grown at all in a year and an half time frame.

I agree night time is the best, plants are actively growing at night after collecting all the suns energy during the day.

Hey Stephen,

Everything looks great.  Congratulation!!  How warm has it been getting over there?   It still hasn't really warmed up warmed up the way I am hoping for.  Would love to see some pictures of the Yumberry trees.

Thanks,

Jacob

Jacob,

Temps have been ranging around high 60s during the day, low 50s at night. Humidity ranging between 40-80% usually. Last night was 100% humidity and foggy/drizzle at times. Warming trend expected going into Monday and Tuesday. Will take Yumberry pictures perhaps tomorrow morning. Not much to see yet, just the small/clipped leaves and stem which has younger parts still green.

3244
Nice Pics Nullsy.... you do any cooking with Allspice?

I like using the dried crushed berries in baked goods and sweets. Been mixing allspice, cinnamon, with Reed avocados and honey. Making a tasty natural pudding.

3245
Great pictures, spring is here :).

3246
nice pics Null- how r the yumberry plants doing

There holding in there, still all green. Not pushing growth yet though. Doing a lot better then the first shipment. I will take some update pics in a week or two.

3247
I was in the container garden last night, took some photos. I have a lot of stuff blooming now in containers, hopefully this year I get a decent yield to have extras to share with family and some friends.

Allspice; The tree is very healthy looking.

'Kohala' Longan; Flower spike getting ready to bloom.

'Garnet Sash' Pomegranate; Getting ready to bloom, lots of flower buds this year.

Red Wax Jambu; Flushing growth

'Concord Seedless' Grape; Flowering

'Jewel' Blueberry

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Humic Acid
« on: March 30, 2012, 11:41:22 AM »
After seeing Adam's posts about Turfpro, I read the description and it said it was a humic and fulvic acid liquid soil amendment. I did some research on the effect of humic acid on plants and it seemed promising. The research shows that it does help a plant absorb nutrients but on the flip side, it helped so well that in one test where there was a lot of lead in the soil, the plants treated with humic acid absorbed much more lead to the detriment of the plant.

I figured I'd buy some and I ended up buying Advanced Nutrients Grandma Enggy's H-2 humic acid liquid amendment. It was only $20 so I might as well test it out.

Anyone else try using humic acid amendments?

Murahilin,

There is a good ebay seller that sells it alone and with sea kelp powder blend for good prices. You can find it under the store here; http://stores.ebay.com/theorganicstore

I am using the Sea Kelp Powder/Humic Acid mix in a foliar spray, with great results noticed so far.

Nice tree Mfajar! That type of form would work great for Pancrazio. If it got very cold would be easy to wrap up the trunk inside the enclosure with insulating materials.

Joshua and Oscar,

The Butia I listed a picture of is actually a seedling from Dennis, the fruit like I said tasted like pina colada. I am glad you posted this Joshua, I may have to contact Dennis for picking up another seedling or two.
