Hi Karen, i have been using Alpha  Chemicals potassium sulfate for a year now & no problems.

Here is a photo of my lychee from last year with fruitlets.

If u are concerned with gophers, try the squirellinator trap & once they are eradicated... u can plant in the ground.

I'm pretty sure lychees grow in zone 9b in China. The issue is heat. In northern CA they're not going to get enough heat for a long enough duration throughout the year. Not only would that make them slower growing, but the fruits are not likely to ripen.

(for those in southern CA, too much heat isn't a good thing either, in that drier climate with less humidity full sun in the heat can make the tree more prone to drying out, which also greatly slows growth)

My lychee has been in the ground for almost a year & it tolerates consistent 100 temps(117 f being the hottest) & 29 f temps during the winter -- unprotected & its growing nicely despite the lack of humidity.. I live in SoCal.

Wow -- looks great.  How often / how much do you water it?  And does your local water have a lot of minerals?

As for this 1, i treat this like a normal tree & i
Use filtered water(attached to my hose has a filter in it).

I have killed 3 small lychees but when i added boogie brew filter and my organic amendments -- it seems to fluorish.

Would it make the slightest difference what so ever if they were grown organically or synthetically?

As far as this article goes, organic oranges contains 30 % more Vitamin C than of commercially grown.

Were these regular orange & blood orange grown organically or synthetically that were fused to these individuals?

None of mine germinated. My dad has it in his greenhouse. And it is hot and humid like mofo in there and ain't helping.

Goodluck. I hope it takes & update us

U cud grow almost anything in SoCal.

I have tropical fruit trees growing no problem for 2 years in the ground unprotected & tasted 117 temp highest & 28 temp lowest with no problems. Except killed a few due to root rot.

Probably brewing compost tea, organic fert, mulch & foliar feeding them made a huge difference on plants resistance.

It is possible that Hawaii have a better chance on successfully growing tropical treees due to high humidity, better rainfall & mild cold weather compare to SoCal, but hey they still do grow here no problems.

I live 25 miles away, west of LA. We tend to be hotter & colder than metro LA.

We have a 40+ year old orange neglected and it produces sweet oranges. Once, i started to mulch, use organic fertilizer, drench compost tea & foliar feed the tree. The sizes of the oranges grew 3 to 5x bigger & leaves were bigger than usual --& sweeter orange. (win-win)

That being said Millet is correct the importance of fertilizing a citrus tree & Spaugh is also correct that citrus can grow neglected.

(I am speaking base on my observation of my orange tree) :D

Cool story.
Why are you posting a picture of these Avocado's here?

I think this is the way of him saying, i have scions for sir P?  Lol

This was grafted 2nd week of December by Adam.

Growing nicely.

i have 6 foot tall thai wax green jambu unprotected south side...
im located in west side of LA (valley) it didnt mind the heatwaves we had (117 temp & 29 temp winter) -- did not defoliate & is growing strong...

The key is to protect it while newly planted say a year or two & give it appropriate micro-climate.

(i killed one wax jambu before due to root rot r/t improper drainage)

I put my ilama seeds inside the greenhouse during the winter, december & no signs of germination.

I have read that they usually take a long time to sprout.

Is your tree from Florida? It may perform better on a different rootstock. I have a small DOT graft on Lemon Zest interstock with Florida Turpentine as the actual rootstock and it is growing fine. The bloom panicles are susceptible to Powdery Mildew but much less so compared to Lemon Zest. DOT is a top tier Mango in my book!

Simon

How wud u compare dot as oppose to LZ & ST?

Can't view the pic. Do Atkin carry smaller manila mango but not HD small?

Sorry about that, I updated my post with the correct link: https://imgur.com/a/8oy9i

i saw the rot. if its severely rotted. its better to protect it from insects that may house in to the branch. U dont want that or have water stay-still that cud cause further damage.

i advise u to paint ur tree using IV organics paint guard. u want to use something environmentally-friendly to ur trees.

Deer are driving me freaking nuts.  They killed 2 of my trees, destroyed my tomatoes, and every time my citrus trees get a fresh flush of new growth, they eat it all.  They eat my baby avocados, baby mangoes, strawberries, you name it, they destroy it.  You have no idea how destructive these things are, when I try to scare them off, they just look at me and laugh.  They have my land marked as having a lot of food so they pretty much visit me nightly.  Deer hoof prints EVERYWHERE!

In my garden in the rear, I have one of those motion activated sprinklers, and it works well.  Problem is, that is just not practical to do over large areas as you have to have a garden hose to every sprinkler, and it has to be on all the time.  Plus, they ain't cheap.

Once my trees get big enough, they'll be ok, but they are being seriously stunted because the new vegetation gets stripped as soon as a new flush is pushed out.

I have tried scent crap, it's a joke, at least everything I've tried.

Anyone know of something that is PROVEN to work?  Thank you!

This may help u.

This works for me from rodents chewing my mangoes trunk & some other tropical fruit trees.

Protect your investment.

Yessir, against rodents...

I suspect leafhopper/ sharpshooter or brown stink bug that got into this branch.

Any idea what this necrotic may be?
