best approach to harvesting scion wood from Cherimoya?
« on: February 02, 2015, 12:05:59 PM »
Somehow I got the impression that it was best to harvest scion wood from cherimoya when it was still leafed out, but snip the leaves off, wait a few days for the remaining bit of petiole to dry and drop, and then harvest the scion wood.  Is that right?  Or does it not matter that much?

Sometimes the leaves don't drop here in SoCal or they drop very late. I believe our Moyas drop their leaves around March-April depending on your microclimate so if you want to graft and the leaves have not dropped, then leaf stripping will be beneficial.

Yeah, what Simon said. Anytime is okay for taking scion and grafting in Socal. Thera recently gave information about sap run when the tree first pushes leaves and it would be good to relieve the pressure if you graft at that time or the graft could fail.

Sap ascent by xylem can be predicted by the phases of the moon...First quarter phase, is the best time for grafting.
Time is like a river.
You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again.
Enjoy every moment of your life!
