what's going on with my guanábana?

Hi all - can anyone tell me what my guanábana is suffering from? It's had some white wax scales that I've been removing by hand, but they haven't seemed like the cause of this amount of leaf discoloration. Or are they? Any ideas?

it's damage from some sort of sucking insect...I've seen lace bugs do damage like this.

Thanks Adam. Do you think the white wax scales which are almost all on the branches would have this effect on the leaves? Because very few of the scales are on the leaves and I don't see any other parasites on there.

I believe the damage would be from a pest directly on the leaf..did you check the undersides for bugs?

Of course! I've found a couple of the scales on the leaves but very few, the great majority have been on the branches. Don't see any other critters.
