Non-musky papaya?

What papayas are not musky?

I want to like papaya, I really do. I love the smell, and I love dried papaya. But I really don't like the musky taste (same taste that is present in cantaloupe and musk melon). But I have not had a lot of papaya varieties, just generic ones from the supermarket (usually green/yellow outside with orange flesh on inside).

Can anyone recommend varieties that are not musky? I would love to try them!

I personally like the Waimanalo dwarf papaya, I thought it had less of the musky taste but it wasn't completely gone. I have also tried an unnamed variety when I was visiting Peru that was super sweet and had just the slightest musk, probably the pest papaya I have had, but it was being sold on the street in Aguas Calientes at a stand with only the generic names, no variety names.

i know the big mexican types are very musky
the Hawaiian Solo is probably the least i know of.

thee type oi get from the store that is marked
"Caribbean Red" has very little musk.

most of the time ripeness has a lot to do with it also
2 fruit from the same tree
1 very ripe, the other, not so much
will have different levels of "musk"
not to mention sweetness.

its a little bit of an acquired taste
but, i am now addicted to them.
i think they are very under-rated in eating pleasure,
not to mention health benefits.

I second the hawaiian Solos. I cannot stand the musky puke aftertaste either but the Solos go down just fine.

I've sprouted some "improved" hawaiian solo sunrise seeds in my yard that I've ordered from aloha seeds. Lets see how they do here in southeast florida.
