Hi Patrick,

What kind of jujube ? How many trees do you have?  Are you selling and how much per pound?

Your crop is right now Patrick? My fruits in LA area are already done and pretty much all dried already.

Don't you pick for yourself and family? You don't like it? Is your tree very big? I have one tree but it did not give me enough fruits for me and family? If I live next to your house, I would come by to pick some. You are  very generous !

The tree is really big and guesstimate around 30 feet tall and loaded with fig fruits.

Did you come to pick last weekend? Did you bring fruit picker? Was it hard to pick since it is 30 ft tall.

I saw Patrick's tree maybe 5 years ago and it is still the biggest jujube tree I've ever seen. Too bad I haven't been around SD lately.
I'm not sure how the fruits are picked. Maybe whack the branches with a long pole and pick them up from the ground?

I get over 60 gallons of fruit a year pickers use ladders and i made a picker/shaker pole  also new deck is 17 feet from the ground so i can use my pole to shake the top of the tree tarps or sheets of plastic on the ground catch most of the fruit .       Patrick

Man Patrick
i would love to see photos too.

i now have 2 Sherwoods (from you)
1 un-named
1 Li
and 1 Coco

the largest is about 8 or 9ft tall, but still very young (2 yrs)

i cant imagine these things 30ft tall and loaded with fruit.
some of them are 4 to 5 ft away from each other.
i will have to keep the ones in front (Southern) shorter
so the ones in back can get more light. when they get larger i guess.

this is the  top of my Coco
it grew the fastest and produced the most.
(this year anyway)

My Lee Jujube had two crops this year, I have another set almost ready to harvest probably in the next two weeks, I am very pleased because last year it  produced very few fruits. :)

nice looking photo Brad, wish my wife could post like that, she is just learning to post to e-mail and facebook thought we would be able to transfer them over but no luck,do not know what you are going to do when your trees get larger, might need to start eyeing you neighbors yards for more space .        Regards     Patrick

thanks
yeah, i will have to prune the limbs to keep them in my yard
i will  have a nice shady spot though.
i had a couple of dozen extra 2x4 and other old wood
i made a walkway and i think i will put a bench down
when the trees get larger to sit under them :)

the walkway is a bit larger than it looks
a lot of vegetation/groundcover over it.

the Coco is the large one on the right
the Li is on the left
the unknown is in back
and the Sherwood is in back -off to the right a bit
(behind the coco and short)

Coco -very good !!

Here is the Li which were large this year
but, not as sweet or crisp as the Coco

How do the Coco taste?

actually, very good.
it might just be the year, or the fact that the Coco is a bit closer
to an old pond i filled in with coffee grounds, sawdust, leaves etc...
(its a huge compost "pile" so to speak)

they are crisp and very sweet.
the Sherwood are good, and the Li were disappointing this year at least.
the Li are the largest though.
The Coco is variable. some fruit are pretty small, others are normalish.

Also, we had a LOT of rain in the beginning of the summer.
like avg of 5 days a week for several weeks.
they all flowered twice, but i got almost nothing from the first
i think the rain washed away all the pollen.

I may have asked this before. You don't have bird problems with your jujube? My friend has a Li tree and most of the fruits are on the ground. The ones on the tree pretty much all have bird damage. For me, I wrap my trees in bird netting.
