Queen Victoria Pineapple Plant
« on: April 20, 2017, 03:30:15 PM »
One of my Queen Victoria African Pineapple plants getting bigger cant wait to see how it turns out over time :)

Why i like Growing Queen pineapple there cold-resistant and more disease-resistant very easy to grow and has a great taste to them makes them worth growing even though the fruit is smaller than other types of pineapple grown

Current Facts
Baby Queen Victoria pineapples go by many names, depending on the country in which you find them. In Australia they are ‘common rough’ pineapples, Britain, 'Victoria pineapples' or in South Africa, ‘Zululand pineapples’. They are unique pineapples and have slowly made a name for themselves in the world market since the 1980s

Beautiful plant but looks thorny. I recently planted the top of a Queen Pineapple and it also has sharp spines for such a small plant. It would be great to hear a review of your favorite pineapples out of all the varieties you are growing.

Thanks.... yeah it does have spines running down its leaves and there very sharp.... the queen pineapple plant gets really huge and the fruit it grows is so small but the taste is awesome for something being so small.... and it tends to produce suckers without fruiting so thats always good means more plants to grow at a faster rate....and always have fruit year round lol

Where did you end up finding your Queen pineapple at took me forever to find them but i did in the long run lol

the place where i found mine at calls them South African Baby Pineapples AKA Queen Victoria

Simon said in another thread that he finds them at Vons supermarket. I got mine from a Korean/Chinese market.

Yes, Fang is correct, I got them at Vons. They are advertised as cocktail pineapples and it was very very good with a unique crunchy texture, soft core and high sugar but also high acidity. I took the top and dried it for three days and then stripped multiple layers off the bottom and planted it into an acidic potting mix.

If I can retain my enthusiasm for pineapples, I will be crossing my White Jade with the Queen, selecting the best tasting offspring regardless of thorns and then back crossing to the WJ to set the thornless trait and high Brix with good acidity.

Looking at the first post again, I realized how big the plant is for a fruit that small. Mine is still in a 4 inch pot. It's good to know they are more cold tolerant. My normal golden pineapples will get frost burn during the colder parts of winter.

if your plant has rooted already you should plant it into a bigger pot. let it grow :)

I sometimes let my pineapple offsets root in a 1 gallon pot than move them to a 7 gallon pot
and other times i will just let the offset root in the 7 gallon pot so i don't have to trans plant
it again.... a pineapple plant will grow fine in a 3 to 7 gallon pot.

Post photos when you get yours planted be sure to Mulch it to help keep weeds away
and helps to keep the soil moist so you don't have to water as much... i cant remember
where did you get your queen pineapple from ?

It's from a supermarket. Queen is maybe the only variety where the box says 'queen' pineapple, with those quotes.

That's great! My plant suffered a good bit of frost damage a few weeks ago. The core is still okay.

Mine is not very big so that might be why it's more sensitive. I just repotted it into a 1gal pot and noticed it sprouting side suckers. Maybe the cold stress is what caused it.
