Oddly shaped leaves on Jackfruit seedlings?
«

Hi,
I have sprouted a whole bunch of Jackfruit seeds. I have gotten them from two different fruits. The ones from one fruit all have normal, ovate shaped leaves. The ones from the other fruit have some seedlings that are normal, and others that have oddly lobed leaves.
Any idea what is going on here? Normal variation? Some sort of disease or nutrient problem? Am I providing improper care in the "nursery" setup?
Thanks!

It might just be as a result of seedling stress or wind damage while the leaves are young, I had some deform leaves on some of my seedlings and they grew out of it, I wouldn't worry too much.

I also have a jackfruit seedling that has a majority of odd lobed leaves. It would be really interesting to see if it retains this characteristic as a mature tree.

i think it's normal, some may select for pretty leaves especially when the fruits are quality... then you know for sure if its a keeper

Hi Rob.
Ever seen the strange lobes persist as the tree becomes mature?

They are real heterophyllas and this is not super unusual.

Normal variation. A lot of the artocarpus do that: have a lot of variation on leaf shape, and also leaf shape changes from immature to mature leaves. That is one reason it is very hard to identify different species just from looking at immature leaves.
