Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Yuzu Ichang Papeda cross
« on: September 25, 2019, 05:40:41 AM »
I`ve found both webadresses via google but there is nothing to be seen that one is just a draft and the other the proper one.
But good to know.
The point is that there is contradicting information on the web than the personal preferencies of Liudmilla descendence by some forum member.
Which proofs nothing other than there are different statements.
As long as there is no link to an scientific paper it is just a statement.
That is what I wanted to point out.

Btw I don`t care about descendency. It is nice to know but I can`t see any advantage in this knowledge which helps me. Might be different for others of course.

INRA in France might be an option too.

I think I saw a spanish nursery selling seeds. Or you could order rootstocks in Spain.
Via google you might find a nursery.
Vivergil has good reputation.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: From Germany, what are these fruits?
« on: September 06, 2019, 05:11:28 PM »
This is a Prunus avium probably a seedling of a garden variety. Definately not a true native P.avium. These would have more darker fruits.
Actually feral P.avium can taste quite good. Each tree is different. But some are sour or even slightly bitter. Eating will not harm you.

Oikos seeds had Asimina seeds from Michigan some time ago. Might be worth a try?

Terri Pietroburgo seems to be an expert on native Pawpaws. Couldn`t find her nursery but an article with her email adress.

Which species is it? Does it have glochids?
Thank you!

Does anyone have seeds of Asimina species other than Triloba? Budwood would also be an option.

Asimina incana
Asimina parviflora
Asimina pygmaea
Asimina angustifolia
Asimina obovata
Asimina parviflora

Thanks for helping!

Once I found them on ebay.

This spring I ordered seeds of var. assamensis from China. Sadly they failed to germinate. Couldn`t find a nursery with plants. Usually you can buy only japonica.
You might have a chance when ordering a large amount of seeds... maybe :)

Thank you!

I might have missed a post but do you have backups of the survivours? I just wonder if these survivours are already reliable hardy enough for slightly warmer climates than yours.
I have several seedlings here to test but my ground in the field is so bad that Poncirus shows literally no growth in years. Will be the same with hybrids.
So I need to do small scale tests here in my house garden with better ground.

"Citrus In The Snow" might be similar. At least you find a little more information about the design on the internet.

I guess it is easier to graft then to wait years for the first flower on a seedling. Cuttlings doesn`t work reliable on most Citrus, even hybrids.
In my eyes it is simply easier.

I don`t think it`s enthusiasts who are responsable for bringing diseases to their countries. Enthusiasts are just the minor part. It is the globalization, international trade which ships diseases arond the world. All tree diseases in the last years in Europe are hardly introduced by single persons.
It`s the official and completely legal import of thousand of tons of wood and fruits which causes it. It`s just a matter of statistics that among such an enourmous amount of trade goods are some unwanted passengers. And no one, no custom on earth can control and test all these goods.
When you say globalization this is the price.

Of course this doesn`t mean it is save to introduced plant material by single person it is definately not but it shows the relation what is more dangerous I think.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: House in greenhouse. Citrus garden
« on: June 02, 2019, 04:34:38 AM »

How cold does it get in winter inside and outside? I saw climate chart for your area and it is not so different from ours when only compared by average temperatures.
Heating the ground is best. Air heating is mostly a waste of energy. In my house I heat the walls without insulation on the outside. It saves 1/3 of the cost compared to before with standard radiator air heating. The best I can open windows without feeling the cold in winter.

How do you heat in winter? Do you use gas or oil?
I am really impressed a simple but efficient system!

Interesting that it is not overheated in summer. That was my main concern. Do have any special technic to prevent overheating or is it just the system by itself?

Very nice work! I am thinking about something like this since a long time. Congrats!
Here are some ideas I would like to contribute for everyone how is interested:

In Germany there is a company using a greenhouse around the house to heat it. The oven is placed outside in the greenhouse cause it is too warm otherwise. To prevent mold it is vented on top and walls are water vapour permeable. Water vapour will follow natural vapour pressure from inside to outside. No mold and rotting issues. Radon is discharged to the outside.
These houses have very low heating costs. But your area is definately colder in winter but might have more sun in winter?

This might be the same house in Sweden like in the link from lebmung
https://lantliv.com/lantliga-hem/vi-byggde-vart-hus-i-ett-glasvaxthus/

There is a very clever way to heat a greenhouse (and the house) in Nebraska made by Russ Finch.
This won`t work in Germany cause soil temperatures are colder due to missing snow cover in winter.

Is there a more detailed description of your house somewhere? I am interested in technical details like floor plans, ventilation,  air flow etc.
Would be really interesting!
