« on: August 31, 2018, 10:18:21 PM »
This was my first time ever grafting, but I managed to get a few successful pushes on my sweet tart Scion, (courtesy of squam) and man am I buzzing!!

I feel like those cavemen after they invented fire lol

But after all, I am a newb, so to be sure, these are successful takes right? :D

Congratulations, looks good so far but I agree you can celebrate till after the second flush as the scions sometimes dies back. Grafting is addictive, especially after your first success. Sauam256 has a great selection of scions and always sends excellent quality material. Make sure not to let the scion hold Fruit for at least one year. We’re not like in Florida, if you let it hold Fruit this Spring, the scion can die back even after the second flush.

Congradulations.  Sweet Tart is the bomb too!

Yes, grafting is addictive Simon.  I've done 67 this year.  Just got thru with the last of 37 citrus grafts on 4 cocktail trees a few days ago.  No mas.......

Looks like a start to me.
As noted by others, you are not out of the woods yet but I know the feeling, its great to see new green push through the buddy tape.
Pay attention to new sprouts on the root stock below your graft on the same limb.  Snap them off, you don't want new growth competing with your Sweet tart.
Let us know when you want to start your 12 steps.  Because like many of us, you will be addicted to grafting.  .. and you know you can stop anytime you want ... :)

Both pictured were done with a cleft graft method.

Not to one up ya but this Mallika froze back to its Turpentine roots so I grafted Pineapple Pleasure, Orange Sherbet and Juicy Peach to 3 shoots that arose from the dead.  This is an old photo, all are on their 2nd or 3rd set of leaves already.  Based on the vigor I'll probably let this one hold some fruit next year.  Pineapple Pleasure is the most vigorous.   Last year I had 4 Zill varieties, 6 grafts on it.
